alba insulation is this true? 5th Oct 17 at 1:25 PM
I have just had someone knock on my door to offer free insulation. I have a Barratt home bought as a new build and it is cold. and it does appear to have gaps in the walls with a foil lining only. I did think of insulation before but couldn't afford it. Now I am told by the alba guy that a large clump of these new builds have been identified by the building inspector as having foil linings only and that the insulation will be done and barratt will be charged as they did not build to the right spec in the first place

Does this sound true to anyone. I have looked for any details on line and can find none so assume if I askl my neighbours they will be similarly in the dark.

When was the house built ?

The only real way of seeing what the cavity wall insulation is like is to drill some holes in the wall and stick a camera in there. I would be highly sceptical of any door knocker making claims without any evidence.

You need a full cavity inspection and have it backed up by a thermal imaging survey. Only then can you make an informed decision.

From the NHBC Guide to New Homes

    Walls

    External masonry walls

    Thermal insulation:

many new homes have insulation in the cavity of the external walls. The insulation may:• fully fll the cavity (either as built-in slabs or as an injected material)• partially fll the cavity (as boards held against the inner block leaf, leaving an air space behind the outer leaf). The air space behind the outer leaf should not be flled with additional insulation. The walls of homes can be thermally insulated in other ways: for example, with a layer of insulation provided between the inner leaf and the plasterboard dry lining. If your home has an unflled cavity, you should not have cavity fll insulation injected without seeking professional advice and obtaining Building Regulation approval from your local authority or (in England and Wales) Approved Inspector.
