On martins advice i applied and recieved barklaycard for travel.I was promised good rates in cash machines abroad and no interest charges if paid off in full by statement date.Sadly none of this is true i took out 200 euro and got 1 euro to the pound and was charged 3% cash withdrwal fee.I did this a second time a few days later with same result. But thats not all i set up a direct debit to pay any balance off in full so i was shocked to find i am being charged £6.50 interest so beware

Sound like you applied for, or received, a different card.

The exchange rate issues sounds as if you selected sterling rather than Euros at the ATM.

    1) You applied for the wrong type of Barclaycard.

    2) You withdrew an inferior sterling value instead of selecting the foreign currency exchange.

    Not Martin's fault.

I took out the Barclaycard for travelling and have used it twice in Spain and once in Italy. All three times the amount initially tracked with charges and lower rates, however, by the time the amount became an item on my account the charges had been removed and rate increased. I got a better (0.001c) rate than my Clarity card.
