HMRC Self Assessment: 502 Bad Gateway 1st Oct 17 at 6:40 PM
Can someone please confirm it isn't just me? After entering my ID and password the page says "502 Bad Gateway". I do get the text message with my access code, but to no avail.

I think HMRC's system has been down for a few days now. Accountants were reporting not being able to login on Friday. Helpfully (not), there was nothing on their service status pages when I last looked, so they're not even bothering to tell people they have a problem with their websites.

I didn't realise there was a service status page, I assume it is this one: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/self-assessment-service-availability-and-issues/self-assessment-service-availability-and-issues

As you say it says "full service available" but that page was last updated in August. Would it not show up here until someone manually updates it?

Cheers Sophie for confirming. I hadn't tried in recent days. I will check again when I next have time. Very frustrating this, whenever I sit down with some spare time to do my finances the HMRC and bank websites are always unavailable.

More than likely a lot to do with the new log in process from 27th September (which I found when I logged in this morning!)

    All working now though!

I have been able to log on and it notice a few new features however after every page or 2 I receive a "system error" page telling me to try again or contact HMRC helpdesk quoting a reference number. Logging out and back in is required every few minutes. At least the access code can be remembered for 7 days so I haven't needed a text message each time.

Update: Panic over! I managed to access my SA Return page after logging-in on a different computer which initiated a new access code from HMRC. I had previously ticked the box which retained the access code for 7 days, and this appears to have been the reason for my inability to gain access to the SA Return pages using my original computer browser (Opera Chrome). I then discovered that I could regain access to my SA Return pages on my original computer by logging-in using a different browser (Google Chrome) which generated a request for a new access code. Phew!
