NHS with spent conviction 1st Oct 17 at 4:51 PM
Are NHS jobs hard to get with a couple of spent criminal convictions? I know they do full DBS checks.

I'm ill atm but want to desperately turn my life around.

Criminal convictions are not a bar to any role in the NHS, each case will be considered on its merits. If you stole a bar of chocolate twenty years ago that's not going to cause an issue, if you assaulted someone last week that will! They'll give you opportunity to explain the situation, how you ended up there and how you have changed things since.

Recruiters in mental health actively welcome those with personal experience in that area, as it gives you a genuine understanding of the challenges your clients will be facing. They will obviously need to check that you are currently stable and not susceptible to relapse.

    Good luck!

Are you sure the role is even subject to Enhanced DBS?

The majority of drug and alcohol workers (ie not nurses) are employed by third sector companies as they have won most of the tenders nationally. However as people have said it isnt necessarily a barrier as long as you can demonstrate that it is in the past and you have a low risk of re-offending

Thank you very much. I've actually seen an nhs drug worker who's actually been in prison though he never said what for.

Just ensure you declare them if asked on any application form.

Its often not the conviction but the failure to declare that will stop a job offer in its tracks.
Quote was right and saw into the future.
