    Tomatoes not ripening

Tomatoes not ripening 15th Sep 17 at 1:20 PM
I was given some tomato plants a few months ago, and they have produced quite a lot of fruit. Only problem is, they are green and nit showing any signs of turning colour.

Is it worth trying to ripen them on the window sill, or are there varieties of tomatoes that just stay green? They are really hard still, and do not come off the plants easily.

Otherwise, can anyone suggest some recipes for me to try, ie chutney that does not include apples or sultanas!

    Thanks

Possibly helpful - sitting down bananas next to them as make other fruit ripen too fast?

Place a ripe tomato in a paper bag with the green tomatoes...this has worked for me in the past.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's Glutney Chuney recipe is great as you can use whatever mix of fruits you have. I have substituted squash for the apples and it worked out fine.

Green tomatoes can be delicious too. Google recipes for Green Fried Tomatoes or Oven Baked Green Tomatoes. I'm glad you reminded me, I need to find a recipe myself!

    Hi,

Your tomatoes look perfect to me. Pick them all off the plant. Put them in a bowl with an apple or the banana and put them in a kitchen cupboard.

Check each day and they will ripen.

It is actually a good thing because you get a few at a time rather than a glut.

I am doing exactly the same thing at the moment.
