    Clearing a Trojan 13th Sep 17 at 9:04 AM
Over last few days have noticed little things on my pc not working quite as expected so I tried to investigate further. Full scans with both McAfee and Windows Defender said all was OK but when I tried to initiate a scan with Malwarebytes the dashboard wouldn’t open.

After Googling I downloaded Malwarebytes Chameleon. After trying various components from there I managed to get a scan done which reported that it found four instances of the ‘FilelessMTgen’ Trojan which after reading around is clearly not good. Unfortunately all the buttons on the Malwarebytes screen visible were completely unresponsive and I couldn’t get the program to move on to the next step and clean up the infection.

Whilst not entirely computer illiterate I only have a little knowledge so in simple terms can any kind soul advise what I should do next? The pc runs Windows 10 and McAfee av (both fully updated).

    Thanks in anticipation.

    1. never run 2 av progs on one machine, they'll conflict and cause issues
    2. although not as effective, run mbam in windows safe mode, it should remove enough to then scan/clean in normal boot.
    3. try adwcleaner and/or JRT to finish

Thanks for prompt responses. Have followed GunJack's instructions and whilst obviously very early days, at first sight under safe mode Malwarebytes seems to have fixed things.

Am only running the McAfee av, Widows Defender Security Centre confirms that 'Virus and Threats' are being handled by another av provider.

Have run it again as you suggested GunJack and it reports that nothing was found.

Touch wood all seems back to normal. Thanks for your advice.

Dump McAfee now... Anything but that.. Even crossing your fingers is better than that.
