    LG TV Freesat/Freeview 10th Sep 17 at 3:45 PM
    Hi ,
Have recently taken delivery of a LG joint Freesat/Freeview TV as I live in a marginal Freeview reception area.

I find the Freesat reception to be excellent except for a few side channels where I don't get any sat signal.

Any ideas how to recover the side channels? I have tried retuning the Freesat tuner but the side channels are still missing!

Pardon my ignorance but what is a side channel? Is you Satellite dish line up correctly and by that I mean has it been adjusted using a meter rather than just relying on the TV/Satellite receiver to tell you it's delivering a certain percentage at a certain quality?

I've just fitted a new 80 cm sat dish but still find some of the more obscure channels can't be received. To be honest there's so many other choices I can't really be bothered to readjust my dish.

If you can't get all the Freesat channels from the off on a new dish it normally means the dish is out of alignment. They have to look at a very specific point in the sky and it only has to be out by a few millimetres and you'll lose a chunk of channels. What channels can't you get?

I've set the dish up using the signal locator so just adjusted the dish to the meters strongest signal, the reason I used the bigger dish was because whenever we had heavy rain we lost the signal, the 80 cm dish solved this problem. It's only a couple of channels that we can't get so not really bothered.

I can get all the major channels but seem unable to get side channels like Yesterday or Drama.

To get these channels I have change TV over from FreeSat to Freeview mode which is bit cumbersome.

Unfortunately these channels are very popular with my wife!

Both on the same 12129 V transponder.

Received here on standard $ky dish @ 100/100 on my Foxsat-HDR so not a difficult one!
I find Vintage TV lcn 505 is a good test of dish alignment. (11263 H).

The OP's dish needs aligning, lnb skew can be out and critical.

Receiver metering is almost invariably superior to an amateur satellite signal finder meter.

The further north you go the bigger the dish should be as firstly the signal from the satellites is weaker and secondly it provides a level of protection against the signal loss experienced during heavy rain - ideally it shouldn't go at all during heavy rain with the sole exception of thunderstorms...
