Work guaranteed for previous owner 8th Sep 17 at 5:58 PM
I bought a Mazda Bongo 2 months ago with service history which includes a receipt from March for £1600 for 'automatic transmission overhaul' and the small print says it's guaranteed for 12 months. 6 months later the transmission oil is pouring from the gearbox!

Can I go back to this garage and make a claim on the guarantee? There's nothing on the receipt which says the guarantee is solely to the owner at the time. Shouldn't a reputable company stand by the work they have done?

Unless stated otherwise warranties/guarantees are only applicable to the original purchaser as they are an extension over rights under SOGA/CRA etc and therefore can have conditions attached. There is no legal right to a transferable guarantee.

You can ask the garage and I would certainly advise doing so, there is an argument that the 12 month warranty is factored into the price and they've already been paid for that. The worst is that they say no.
