    Quick query.....
    Unmarried but we have a will. Wanted to understand the process should one of us die (lovely subject!)

    Do our debts get deducted from the sum of the assets BEFORE IHT is applied?

    Just trying to understand if we will go over the threshold. Based on current assets it would be very close!

    You pay IHT on your net estate ie all your assets less all your debts.
