Am i getting ripped off? (Central heating) 7th Sep 17 at 10:32 AM
So i am getting a brand new central heating system, brand new Worcester Bosch boiler, 6 radiators, towel rack, smart controls, all new pipe work. The gas mains has to go from the front to the back of the house (15-20mts) My quote is £4700 including labour and everything, i have done some research and it sounds about right but being paranoid of getting ripped off i wanted to hear other opinions. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: The quote is from Help-Link

    Sounds pretty good to me.

Check your installer's Gas Safe registration for some peace of mind

One guy quoted 2,700 but this was a self employed gasman not affiliated to a large company, we didn't discuss specifics in regards to the boiler either.

Sounds alright - Question, how are the rads going to be fed, surface mounted, recessed, under floorboards etc? All require different durations etc, and can damage finishes.

Surface mounted pipes. The main gas line has to go under the upstairs floorboards.

    "The quote is from Help-Link"

I strongly advise you do some research on Help Link before committing.

Any reason? I've done quite a bit and read a lot of good reviews, i always take reviews with a pinch of salt however as some people are never happy.

Any local installers you could get a quote from ?
Can people stop loaning money/being a guarator to family/friends, it rarely ends well and you lose out as your money is gone or you get shafted with being a guarantor.

Most of the tradesmen I use are sole traders, that is probably how the majority trade. They do not have the high overheads of larger firms such as large offices, admin, marketing etc. so they tend to be cheaper.

If you are unclear about his quote why don't you go back and discuss it with him and agree what boiler you want. With a £2000 saving you have got a lot of room to negotiate.

I don't know which part of the country you're in but it sounds much too high for anywhere but London and its well-heeled suburbs. The other guy coming in at little over half the price should be a reason to get more quotes.
