Combi boiler controls replacement 6th Sep 17 at 6:02 PM
My daughter has a Greenstar 24i Junior Combi Mk111 boiler.

The supply of heating and hot water is OK but the controls are not so good. They are manual and not flexible enough for her. She would like a digital control and in particular would like to be able to advance the heating in order to dry bathroom towels on damp days rather than just leaving heating on which is her only option now.

Can anyone recommend a new controller please and hopefully one that can be installed DIY to save on costs.

    Thanks Anne

Which controller is currently installed; this is important so one can work out if the new one will be able to use the same back plate and electrical connections.

I don't know how to answer that as the controller is integrated with the boiler casing. You open a flap at lower end of boiler and there it is. One of those with a dial and pins for off and on.

This isn't going to be a diy job, you have a mt10 which is plugged into the pcb of the boiler and needs the case, which is a combustion seal, to be removed to get it out.

You can have any timer and thermostat you want fitted it will just be wired to the boiler pcbs room stat connection.

Many of the timers are upgradeable to digital models such as the DT20 with the functions you want, the timer panel simply swaps out. As stated above, the boiler front sealed panel needs to be removed to change it, a job for a gas safe technician. Obviously need to check that the particular model is compatible - example here http://www.directheatingsupplies.co.uk/worcester-greenstar-comfort-plugin-programmer

My suggestion would be to leave the time clock in situ & get a programmable room stat installed
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Thank you all very much indeed for the helpful replies. I think we may well be able to get this sorted before winter sets in. Anne
