Best way to take travel money for Barbados 6th Sep 17 at 3:50 PM
My wife and I are going to Barbados for 1 week at the end of October
The flights and hotel have been organised through a travel agent on a bed and breakfast basis so most of the cost of the holiday is already paid for
When abroad ( normally Europe ) we normally use a credit card which has no fees and a good exchange rate so most of our spending on holiday will be taken care of by card
What is the best way to take / organise travel money for those occasions in Barbados when payment cannot be made by card
Do we take foreign currency with us
Do we use a debit card and an ATM over there - which is something we have not done before
Do we take sterling and change it in Barbados at a Bank
Any advice would be much appreciated

Currently Loot.io, Monzo and Starling Bank offer fee free ATM withdrawals. Though the landscape can change.

There is also Creation Everyday, Halifax Clarity, Santander Zero and Barclaycard Travel Platinum.

Enjoy your time in Barbados, it's a lovely place to visit. We tend to go in November but are having a change this year and off to Boston then down to St Lucia.

You can use your fee-free credit card to withdraw cash from ATMs, paying it off asap to limit the minimal daily interest. A Monzo or Loot Prepaid card will cost nothing and be a useful backup or alternative. Buying cash BBD then perhaps having to change some back to pounds is not necessary or economical.
