English school holidays V Scottish. 4th Sep 17 at 9:54 PM
As soon as we returned from this years holiday, 1st 2 weeks in August, we decided to book next years. Decided on last 2 weeks in August, virtually identical hols., flights within an hour of each other, leaving from Manchester £2432, from Glasgow £2068.
Well worth a 3hr drive against a 40 min. drive.

It's cheaper from Glasgow because our Scottish schools are usually back mid august. Same as it's cheaper for us begin July when the English kids are still at school. Scottish schools finishes usually 28tj June.

How much of a savings it once you've paid for fuel?

Yes it is supply and demand but you are lucky, even so to find it is cheaper from GW, it is usually significantly more making it economic to travel sometimes from Glasgow (or other Scottish airports) to fly from Manchester, but a pain to do so!

I can never understand why it is so much more expensive for often just an extra 15 to 20 minutes of flight to many a holiday destination.

Plus I always stay in hotel night before travel to give us a relaxing start to holidays.

Many years ago when I was a kid we as a family did this in reverse flying in July when the Scottish schools had broken up but not the English.

We were fortunate to have friends in Newcastle so would drive down there and leave our car with them and they'd kindly run us to/from the airport.
