    Weekly Flylady Thread 4th September 2017 3rd Sep 17 at 9:59 PM

What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Right now the thread is looking very quiet...but please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Natty for last week's thread.

It is your responsibility to read the forum rules, please follow them on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
    MAD half hour
    - Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Productive day here. Uniform darks have just gone in the wm. earlier wash is drying in conservatory, dinner made, eaten and cleaned up after, downstairs loo and sink washed, shoe and bag rack sorted and swept under, desk cleared, sofas cleaned and floors wiped in wc, hall and kitchen. Oh also dusted the tv and moved the wii into LR. Kids playing on it now and I'm going to do some yoga later on the wii fit board...

Other than that I've made soup, prepped some veg for tomorrow and sorted out school bags and lunch boxes. Have even copied down the relevant dates from the school calendar into my diary

I'm shattered now, lol. But I may tidy my wardrobe tonight

Himself has sort of installed the freesat box he ordered the moment I told him I'd cancelled SKY. It works, at least. But tomorrow morning's jobs will include me disconnecting everything attached to the TV, pulling out the unit, pulling out all the cabling I'd set flush against the skirting, cleaning the items and unit (glass and chrome, so lots of Windowlene pink gloop to make sure he does it properly) and then running the cables back into technician-type geeky perfection.

LW happy to stay online friends if you would prefer. But we are here for you, never forget that. Help will be given, just like at Hogwarts.

We opened early yesterday too. So the parents have now seen just how awesome our room looks.

The Loki guy has been here. No hot water. Even when I repressured the boiler it wouldn't light.

I ave offers from two neighbours/friend to shower there.

House disgusting. Footwear must be worn in the kitchen - its THAT bad!
So coffee, flannel wash, breakfast then I need to make a start...

Thank you all for the good wishes, the day was perfect! We had rain while eating but it was dry the rest of the time. The photographer has already posted photos up on fb if you look at 'shoot it momma' on there you can have a look if you want.

Off to do some post wedding tidying now as it looks like a bombs dropped because so many people got ready here.

After a week of Himself generally annoying me and me annoying him by being completely unable to hear the alarms and requiring considerable effort to rouse me every day (which he doesn't like doing, because apparently, I look disorientated when he does - well, that'll be because I am asleep, won't it? That's the point - when I actually do go to sleep, I sleep like a brick and don't hear the alarms - I need him to do something or I would never get to work. And no amount of gentle whispers from across the room is going to get through to me when phones, alarms, thunderstorms, torrential rain, howling wind, foghorns, roof tiles falling, trees being uprooted and cars crashing into telegraph poles or cats jumping on my chest have all failed repeatedly), I opened my eyes exactly 3 minutes before the work alarm would have gone off this morning. When I don't have to work. And no alarm was set.

After the vague sense of annoyance that this would have been a darn sight more useful over the last five days than this morning, I lounged around in the peace and quiet of Himself being sound asleep and the cat being very smug and happy in the sunshine bathed bedroom.

Should have stayed up there. The sunshine is highlighting all the dust, dirt, grime and clutter/rubbish Himself has left about the place this week. I filled a carrier bag with leftover bits of food/salad/etc that was on the countertop before I could even find the coffee jar. And why, when there are perfectly adequate, spacious and clean cupboards for food and condiment storage, would anybody leave them forming a barricade around the kettle instead?

Going to have another bucket of coffee, a bath and hopefully he'll be up and doing something about the kitchen and living room before I go all Terminator on it.

    Wow, Dancemum! Well done.

Lovely photos Mrs MP, really beautiful wedding day.

Shower room totally sparkly, both letting rooms turned around, and the whole of the lower ground floor given a proper clean. Plus some serious scrubbing of the path to the front door because it is absolutely disgustingly minging with green slime that is being tracked into the house every time someone comes in. Goodness it's hard work. That was yesterday. Today, more scrubbing of the front path, a bureau in the sitting room needs going though and a pile of stuff set aside for the CS and the rest of the time I've got devoted to sewing. Should be good.

I'll be honest, it shocked and scared me just how badly I suffered after visiting the pub, with just Mr LW and P and A there, especially as A often comes round to ours of an evening when we have dogs staying (though admittedly if I start feeling shaky I can decide it's time for the dog to have a garden break, to give myself chance to recover some degree of equilibrium). If I can react that badly with people I've known for a decade and a half, what chance do I have with people I don't know IRL?
Part of me knows I need to get to grips with this, as it is clearly becoming worse, and part of me wants to sit under the table and chew a slipper at the very thought.

Flying-wise, the bed has been stripped and the bedlinen washed, and Mr LW has put a clean set of bedlinen on without being asked.

Mia has been for a walk, and was as good as gold when we were passed on the pathway by two border Collies and two Dalmatians, even though one of the Collies showed more than a passing interest in her nether regions.

This morning I have polished my kitchen cupboard fronts, including kick boards and the bits at the top to th ceiling (can't remember what they are called, lol)

DD taxi'd to dancing and back. Recruited for babysitting the tiny this afternoon and tonight. He may be attending his first football match tomorrow

Sorted finances this morning, phoned brother in Oz, arranged coffee with a friend at the Scandinavian household store for Monday and even accepted a bonfire invite. Lol. It's only 8 weeks away. But my calendar is filling up.

Shuffling laundry around trying to get it dry while the rain pours down... Think I'll make a cuppa!

Not sure where the morning went, or yesterday for that matter!

Friday's seem to be turning into busy busy days lately for some reason. Funny how that seems to mean the bathroom doesn't get cleaned ....

I was taxi service last night for DH and his friends. I got the short straw of doing the pick up so they were told 11pm and no later. I need my bed by then! Anyway, I made good use of the evening and caught up with the paperwork mound and a couple of orders that needed to be done. Hardly exciting stuff, but a teensy frog munched, so I am easily pleased.

I am on allotment watch for a friend this week, so I trotted over there earlier. Kitchen now a mound of free fruit and veg, the freezer is packed full, so pickling it will have to be. The troops are starting to revolt at the sight of beans and courgettes though....

So glad you had a lovely day Mrs MP.

I'm not having a very good day at all. My anxiety has taken hold and everything is a major trauma or disaster. Just been in tears at a missed soft play date, despite trying repeatedly to get in touch with the mum. I'll get the blame, as usual. This sort of thing makes me retreat into my shell even more. I soon won't leave the house or socialise with anyone for fear of offending.

I have cleared the kitchen and am part through cleaning it.

Glad the wedding went well MrsMP x

Is FBO on holiday? Not seen her posts this week

Everyone wants feeding all at once. Kids having jacket spuds in front of the tv, I've got one next to me but an arm full of baby and bottle is hindering my progress. Even the furries are in here in the pen with half a lettuce, lol

Lovely wedding photos Mrs-mp. How did you manage to keep out of the frame? Can we see a ohoto of the mother (and father) of the bride, please?

Pigpen, is the dog for one of your family?

We finally left home just after 11 this morning, but I did manage to send some important emails first, which I can now stop worrying about. Drove down the M5 watching the tabloids and went through some downpours where visibility went from good to almost zero before I could flick the windscreen wipers. A few slow sections, but fortunately no major problems.

When we arrived, I took Rosie out for a walk in the wood, on the lead of course. She suddenly decided to chase a squirrel just where the path was muddiest, pulling me over so that I landed flat on my face. Devon leasehold is amazingly black, so you imagine the reaction from my DH when I got back! Fortunately there is a washing ma home in the cottage. Unfortunately I hadn't brought any washing powder with me, so I had to handwash everything I was wearing in eco washing up liquid, rinse it all umpteen times, and then rinse and spin in the WM. Everything came up clean except my undies Luckily I have brought plenty of spares.

We went out again after teA and bumped I to the owner walking her dogs, and she has kindly given me a tub of washing powder. Hopefully I won't need it now!
