    Weekly Flylady Thread 4th September 2017 3rd Sep 17 at 9:59 PM

What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Right now the thread is looking very quiet...but please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Natty for last week's thread.

It is your responsibility to read the forum rules, please follow them on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
    MAD half hour
    - Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

    Evening All,

Silly busy day - paid stuff, school runs, argument with school about after school clubs and total lack of communication yada-yada-yada!

Have managed to do several laundry loads though, and just got a 90 degree empty wash on with a cleaner thing my mum bought me.

DD in the bath, DS refusing one because his finger hurts so he's watching Angry Birds in his PJs. Early nights all round I think.

I would LOVE to come to a Flylady meet, I am rubbish at organising stuff but would be there like a shot. I'm the blonde lass sat at the bar! x

My dear friends, I would so love to get to grips with this phobia; to give you an idea, Mr LW and I met up with 2 friends that Mr LW has known for almost 30 years and I've known for 15 - we all used to play Dungeons & Dragons at C's house, and it was to commemorate 10 years since C trundled off to the Summerlands. I coped OK with D&D because I wasn't "me", I was (variously) Hazel Nutt, Fionnuala Na Yallochan, Lyssa Blackthorn, Stella Artois, Estsanatlehi and several others I can't call to mind just now...... you get the picture.
Anyways, I bluffed my way through the evening at the pub, but spent the next 48 hours dealing with the "fallout" - reliving the entire thing, going over every tiny bit of conversation to work out what I said/did that was stupid/offensive/otherwise inappropriate - the whole nine yards. I do this every time I have to deal with Other People. I believe it ultimately comes from a very strong self-loathing on my part. I don't like me, so I can't imagine how anyone else could possibly like me.
Blighter's on a roll just now, if you ask me!

I'd better put in a Flying bit I suppose - Mr LW has been hoiked off the bed (he was reading) and told to dust the lounge, as we have Milly & Mia coming with their humans for a socialisation visit this afternoon - one of them (I thought it was Milly, but from my notes, I think it's actually Mia) doesn't settle easily away from their humans, so they're coming for a couple of short visits before their holiday. They're due here at 14:00. Mr LW will be on tea-making duty.

I trust an animal's opinion of a person over and above a human's. Especially when Himself told me that when they separated, his cat stayed with the Harpie because she chucked him onto the street (in favour of somebody who had a fancy car, lots of money and fitted the image of how she wanted to be seen), so he couldn't take it - and was promptly rehomed a few weeks later after it started sneaking into her wardrobe and ****ting in her incredibly expensive shoes.

So if you ever want to talk about dogs and any other animals, rather than yourself or any subject you *think* might offend, let me know and I'll hop onto a direct train to the land of the concrete cows for a couple of hours. You can also email a checklist/critique of how you think it went (and I'll reply with suitably unequivocal replies like 'Not offended' 'You made me laugh with that story about x dog' 'I agree' if it is what you need to be reassured).

    ********

Himself is on his best behaviour this evening. He decided to try and talk to me once we went to bed. Thankfully, my insomnia didn't kick in and I promptly fell asleep during the first half hour of his wibbling.

Was in class for a whole lesson today. They have been primed to do as they're told where the expensive equipment is concerned, as I know where they all live. They're still impressed that they're getting trusted to touch the expensive equipment for their course, especially as they now know I take disrespecting it as a hanging offence and I pointed out that, this time next year, the kids in the other class (the so called high achieving ones - didn't say that, but it's blatantly obvious to the kids in my class that they are not in that category) will be looking to them as the experts and needing their help. And then I spent the afternoon sorting out sound for an event and then pottering around fixing things.

I enjoyed it. But, oh, how tired I am. But IT'S FRIDAY TOMORROW! I survived a week and they're still being nice to me!

I just picked the biggest lump of pink fluff out of the inside of my bedsock... why do they shed so?!?!?!

Jojo.. I quite agree.. if a million dogs love you then you must be worth loving because they don't understand anything but love or un-love.. they know who has their back and who will be there for them, they aren't just ruled by the person with the biscuits.. they know when you are sad and when you are happy... omg.. dogs are santa (I actually typed satan then.. oops lol) they know when you are sleeping, they know when you're awake, they know if you've been bad or good so be good for doggies sake!!!

Ya know what.. I am going to find uniforms now.. I'm going to draw on OH's lunch box and I am going to my nest BEFORE midnight... I've been going up at 2am every night and I am floofed!

Head lice reported in Dot class already.. day freaking three!!!! It is vile.. some dirty minger has not debugged their child over the whole of the holidays! They should be reported for neglect!! it is disgusting! Poor little child It's so sad.

    Morning lasses - TFIFriday!

Worktops are in. Hoo-blooming-rah! Look great and I'm super pleased. I can now start refilling all the cupboards with my boxed kitchen carp that is currently being stored upstairs in the house. Flying will be concentrated on these rooms until it's all sorted. Need to get a new kettle and drawer dividers. Oh, and some new tea towels (already purchased the new copper-coloured pans), spice jars, as having mismatched ones is somehow unthinkable now, and.....very exciting...

LW - you love dogs and they love you, therefore you and I would be friends IRL. Fact.

    See you all later x

Happy Wedding Day vibes to Mrs MP. Oh I do hope you don't live anywhere near me -nothing personal, it's just tipping down here!

LW - I live life quite convinced that anyone who seems to like me will one day 'realise what I truly am' and run a mile. I too over-analyse conversations - which sends my anxiety through the roof with the 'should have' s and 'ought to' s - and so I too avoid a lot of social situations. Perhaps we were separated at birth? (As a child I was convinced I'd been taken home from the hospital by the wrong parents!) But dogs like me - even when their owners don't (just thinking of one lovely dog, Bobby, who, many years ago, insisted on sitting on my feet under my desk to the annoyance of my colleague, his owner, who hadn't spoken to me for months ). Virtual hugs heading your way.

I'd better look sharp - I'm expecting a phone call in ten minutes to give me a psychological screening (I don't like phone calls much either).

I'll declutter the call; then I'll hopefully have the wherewithal to get dressed and do the dailies. Going to have to pace myself as I didn't sleep well - at 2 am I was trying to calculate how many hours at minimum wage I would need to work each week to be able to pay the bills: phased return to current job obviously going well then

Happy wedding day to the moneypennies xx
Happy kitchen filling day dizzy xx

Tipping down here too. So much so that school opened early so they could all trot in as they arrived. I had a hunch DD would have cold hands - she always does in the rain - and have no idea where her gloves are - but found my fingerless ones, she wore them lol.

Need to pop out again this morning, then my list is waiting for me when I get back, shouldn't take an hour. But I've stuck a wash in, so just waiting for that to finish. It will have to dry indoors. Might get the dehumidifier going with a rack in the conservatory...

Other jobs today include sorting the boot of the car - it's empty but needs football supplies eg camping chair, big brolly, hats and gloves, extra layer of clothing for DD. Actually, someone gave us a puddle jumping suit age 9-10 which I might slot in too. And I've just found bigger wellies for her.

It's that kind of weather that has me wondering what coats still fit them. Nothing else does!!!

Hope your days are less sogg than mine

On the good side, Mia the Staffie is here for the weekend; she's pee'd on the front lawn, poo'd on the back lawn, and is very vocal (not barky, little "chatty" whine noises, it's quite funny). And she's had a biscuit - when she came for her initial meet'n'greet visit, Mr LW and I were both asked to hand her a biscuit; only after she'd accepted them from us both were we told that she will only take a biscuit from people she likes.
    Soggy walkies later, methinks.

*Good weather vibes* for Mrs MP's DD's wedding day. Sending very happy wedding thoughts, too. It's tipping it down here and will do for the rest of the day but it's forecast to be dry this evening when we're at an outdoor screening of La La Land. I'm happy to have the rain here if it means you don't get it Mrs MP.

I have had a massive fail today!!

New kitchen Dizzy! How exciting! Lots of new stuff, obviously, otherwise it would look tatty and that really wouldn't do after you've waited so long for it.

Spent two hours tidying last night and another hour this morning, so the house defo looks a lot better. I'm determined to tackle the shower room and two letting rooms today to get them off my listy so that I can stop feeling froggy about them.

Hope wedding goes well Mrs MP
Hugs to anyone who needs them.
Rain here this morning and chilly but the sun is trying to visit so may get dog walk in the dry.
Haven't read back yet but hope all are well. Just having coffee and will then vacuum through downstairs ready for weekend.
    Hugs

11 new job applications filled in.. it is a total waste of time.. his CV makes him look like the most boring person in the world.. he won't let me re-write it.. he sees himself as so much less than he is!

4 items listed for sale.. 3 are new.. my children grow too quickly! The other needed ironing after it was worn once... *shameless*

it keeps piddling here too.. I might have to get the dryer on as my kitchen is turning into a launderette again! .. I just want a couple of days of decent weather and some time without Twinkle glued to my leg! and a rocket shoved up my jacksie!

    Ok.. you may praise me...

I have hung out the washing.. TADA!!!!!!!!!

Next 2 loads are in but not quite full so can wait for uniforms tonight.
Pixie has been chucked in for swimming lessons too.. so we have 3 of them there at 1pm tomorrow so we are making a family outing of it and all going rather than OH going alone and struggling to get everyone dried and dressed. So I need to sort 3 dance bags, 3 swimming bags, 2 ice skating bags and am thankful the 3 PE bags are already done.

Twinkle doesn't let me do a thing and I broke my favourite Muppet mug which spilled tea everywhere so half the kitchen had to be mopped.

Squeaks homework done.. I think.. it is online but uses flash which doesn't work on the ipad which is ridiculous especially as it is ipads they use at school too.

Washing on line and in the dryer

    OH wiped the table

I cleaned the slowcooker which has been languishing in its own filth for *mumble* three weeks *unmumble* .. I KNOW, I don't need telling.
