Europcar Hire Charges 1st Sep 17 at 2:41 PM
Living in Spain I had booked a flight to Manchester. Through the Easyjet website I also used Europcar to hire a car for collection at Manchester Airport and return to Newcastle Airport. As I was flying 2 weeks later I elected to pre-pay the hire charge, saving myself 10% on the booking.
Less than 24 hours after returning the car I received the invoice by email, with an additional sum deducted from the debit card I had used as security for the hire.
I know I used the Easyjet website for the booking (for convenience) but the booking confirmation was from Europcar and prepayment was to Europcar.
    My question is:
Can Europcar make additional charges, over and above the amount I prepaid, if those charges do not relate to the additional charges covered by the terms and conditions?
The only charges on the invoice are daily hire, one way hire, VAT and 10% discount. Nothing that would constitute an additional charge.

Even though I hired the car in the UK the email containing the invoice pointed to Europcar Customer Services Spain for any query. The email address failed. I contacted Europcar Spain via the website and they referred my query on to Customer Services UK. That was 9 days ago and I am still waiting for a reply, even after a prompting.

Sorry, not phoning an 0871 number from Spain. Might as well just write it off, but it is the principle of the thing.

Europcar finally replied to my query, saying they needed more time. I replied stating what was included in the price I pre-paid and there was nothing in the final invoice that was additional. I think I have a result as overnight I received two emails. The first was the original invoice, including the additional charge while the second was a revised invoice showing the pre-paid amount. It has taken 18 days so far and I now wait to see if the refund arrives!
