Next MSE Collective Switch Coming to an End 8th Aug 17 at 6:48 PM
I am currently on the MSE Collective Switch with BG which comes to an end on 3rd October. Will a another collective switch be launched before then (statement aimed at MSE reps) or should I just start looking at the best deals around 4 to 5 weeks before my deal comes to an end?

A week or so ago, when I spoke to BG about my change from them to AVRO, I was told that I would see that it looks like I would be on the standard tariff after the Collective switch ended, but there would be a refund shown in the final bill to make up the difference. If I log on now, I see I am on the standard tariff for both gas and elec.

I will be watching my switch like a hawk to see evidence of this refund!

Ok so I just checked my BG account and my electricity has been deducted but no bill generated as yet. Currently questioning with BG why Iíve been charged £95 for electric in less than a month when for over six month period It was just £265! Without a bill itís hard to see if Iíve been over charged.

    Switched on 19th September
Just received the following thru online chat: re info now rendered unavailable on website.

"You won't be able to see this info while we wait on the final readings, as soon as we've got them and the account is closed then you'll have full access to your online account for 6 months after it closes."

Also told could be up to 8 weeks (though unlikely to be that long) before receiving final bill depending on new supplier giving them final readings.

My switch from BG to Ovo commenced on 26th September. As I was going away for a week on 23rd I supplied both gas and electricity readings on 22nd. Afterall I had switched the gas boiler off and there was no one in the house to use much electricity. I received the gas bill online on 29th September. No mention of electricity. I spoke to BG on 2nd october who said they had not received the electricity reading. Now I have a credit of over £400 with BG which they won't return because the electricity bill is not finalised.
I spoke to Rosie at Ovo on 2nd October. She said that energy readings go via a 3rd company who have to confirm they are correct before passing them on to the old supplier and this could take 4-6 weeks. She said I would not be charged for any energy by BG because when they receive the electricity reading it will be back dated to 26th Sept and Ovo would charge me from the transfer date. I have checked the bank statement and BG have not taken any further direct debit payments. As far as Ovo is concerned my account is up and running.

I guess I am lucky in that the gas transfer went through before the previous BG MSE tariff finished.

Has anyone else been told about this mysterious third party who checks meter readings or is it a load of *******? I am not on a smart meter so short of coming round and reading the meter how are the mysterious third party going to confirm it is correct? I am sure that BG will not be in any hurry to close my account and return my credit built up over the Summer months to avoid high Winter fuel bills.

Losing suppliers have up to 6 weeks to raise a Final Bill from the date of the transfer of supply. This is covered in Licence Conditions and in EU Law.

My experience of being with Ovo on two occasions in the past is that they always overstate the time things take. Better to deliver early than late.

    Welcome to the forum.

My case is exactly the same as yours i.e. switched 26 Sep and had a gas bill showing a large credit on 28th Sept, but also nothing yet about electricity. The bill total for electricity will be deducted from my gas credit.

Spoke to BG and they state they have 3 weeks to action electricity; several other posters have the same experience as thee and me.

Hengus I am pleased & relieved that you have had 2 positive experiences with Ovo. I have been impressed with their email communication and the website and when I spoke to them they were most helpful. This is my first venture away from the big 6.

Cardew switched supply the same day and has now had the electricity account settled so I hope to hear something soon.

No collective so I've switched to Ovo 2yr
As no Collective was achievable for Oct 2017, I switched to Ovo (big increase in cost but MSE's best 2 year fixed) who are now supplying me dual fuel since 28/9/17. All contact with them has been very positive. Long may it last. However BG seem not to understand that I have switched away and the MSE energy 'club' think I'm in some sort of limbo with a switch still proceeding. Is there a way of telling my profile that I am firmly with OVO already? I assume BG will muck me around for ages as they have a significant Credit of mine. I wonder if OVO are dragging their feet in passing my final reading over to BG and if the they are being similarly slow with the info to MSE as doubtless they will owe a commission to MSE. Does anyone know how the processes involved between old supplier / new supplier / MSE work?

    Apologies
As a newbie I failed to see the items in the thread close to my post. They largely answer my questions. It is reassuring to see others have gone to OVO and we all seem to approve of their communication style and promptness.

The switching process is clearly laid down in a Supply Licence. The gaining supplier manages all aspects of a switch. The problem is that people push the switch button and then wonder why it can take up to 2 months to get accounts set up and accounts closed. Thatís just how it is.

Your Cheap Energy Club account will say that you have a 'switch in progress' until your new supplier has passed us along an update on your switch. It usually takes around 3 months for your supplier to give us an update on your switch, so it's not unusual that it still says you have a switch in progress.

This process will all happen automatically in the background and once OVO has confirmed to us that your switch has completed, we'll send you an email to let you know.

    Hope this helps!

To cap it all, the DD for elec & gas (one combined payment) was taken in full at the usual time, for just a gas bill covering a few days, so now my account is in credit by over £100 and the refund yet to be credited.
