So, what's to stop me signing up for a merchant account with low fees, e.g. netpay, and paying myself money to generate transactions and therefore profit?

    1) You won't know if they will honour it until November.
    2) They may consider that fraudulent, but seems unlikely they would find out.

They probably have detection in place that will flag up persistent and suspicious trades

Does anyone know if you already have two 123 accounts, can you downgrade one to the lite version and/or open a new 123 lite account separately?

Similarly, if you have 1 123 accounr, can you open a lite account as well?

I presume if you can downgrade an existing 123 account, you won't be able to upgrade it again as they now limit it to just 1 account for new customers..

Also, do they still limit the total number of current accounts you can have with them at any one time?

Officially that's a reasonable presumption. Unofficially it isn't!

Did they ever limit the number?

I thought they had a limit of 5 current accounts at once - though can't recall where I picked that up now.

I've had a 123 account for years, opened an Everyday account about 3 weeks ago with the intention of using it as a donor account (I should have thought of upgrading that to a 123 Lite but didn't think), and a week ago opened up a 123 Lite for the cashback. I haven't had a problem.

Having problems with my Santander Lite and the 5% cashback. Staff in shops don't know about the £100 limit as opposed to the £30 limit; my card has been blocked and despite me responding to the anti-fraud text it still isn't working, so I'm missing out on cashback. Seems a poorly managed promotion - something reminiscent of their Abbey National predecessors.

The cashback is only if you use apple pay or android pay.

Using your santander debit card will not get you any cashback.

You don't see anything wrong with that statement?

I'm not saying they are going to suffer legal sanctions if discovered. I'm not even saying they would have their accounts closed.

Plus, if they don't honour the cash-back you are going to have generated fees that you can't recover.

Does anyone happen to know when Santander will be paying the cashback? I know they said 'during November', but anyone have an idea what the date will be based on? I just need to pick a date to switch me account...
