For forty days it will remain
St Swithun’s day if thou be fair
For forty days ‘twill rain nae mare

14th century legend that has never actually happened yet.

We have had rain here for pretty much most of today so far

Despite warnings for this morning it has stayed dry on the Lincolnshire coast.

The chances of forty dry days given the past few so-called "summers" here anyway are slim, methinks.
The powers-that-be seem to like reminding British holidaymakers that school holidays and dry weather in UK resorts never shall meet.
Not for more than a few days at a time, any way.
