When your car engine gets hot, the engine fans go on,

In these past months, has your engine fan been going on more often then usual?
(and you hear the fan noise more frequently, than usual) ?

Does the engine fan have 2 speeds?
and Also, the engine fan goes on, sometimes it goes on with a low volume hum noise, but when the engine gets a bit hotter (temp gauge shows a bit higher reading) then the fans go on at a louder noise,

Is that normal? could it be a 2 speed/ 2 step fan?

    Car is Peugeot.

Yes I've heard mine on a couple of times lately. To be expected as said above. Some (if not all?) of them are two speed.

Yes often recently as my 2.0 Diesel burns off the soot! I'm not worried as it's normal for mine!

Whats the temperature gauge saying? Typically your fan will work harder if your engine is getting hotter such as with a head gasket or water pump failure. Or even if it thinks its getting hotter with a faulty thermostat (for example).

But given the possibility of the head gasket (which I believe could potentially knacker your engine if you keep driving it), I'd consider getting to the bottom of it sooner rather than later.

Note: I am not a mechanic - just recalling what I learned when I had a car with the same issue 2 years ago. Car drove fine, it was only the fan being noisy/staying on after shutting off the ignition that alerted me to any problem.

ETA: I'd especially get it checked if this isn't a new car and last summer it was fine.

Yes, some Peugeots have 2 speed fans. Whether it's by design or just another badly made French wiring loom, who knows........

Turn your aircon off. My fan only comes on when i switch the aircon on. It never needs it at any other time.

Well, its been hot and between the need to get rid of engine heat and the Aircon I'd expect the fans to be going a bit more. Sounds normal to me although it might be worth checking your coolant level.
