garages / lock Q for home insurance 14th Jul 17 at 11:11 AM
    Hi

I have a garage with a T handle and lock,

Does anyone know if its possible to change the handle / lock to something better which would be insurance approved, or suggestions on increasing the security .

    insurance has stated either
"five lever deadlock and bolts. Either that or a padbar with a stout closed shackle padlock or a sturdy hasp and staple with a stout closed shackle padlock"

but I don't see how a hasp and staple can be fitted to a garage up and over door,
and I don't know how you would fit a five lever deadlock to the door either, ??

Dont know it its insurance approved. there are sturdier but more expensive ones out there.

Cant think of any replacement locks for up and over doors and if its the type that unlocks by pulling a little latch at the top of the door down then there is nothing to stop a tea leaf just prising the tab down to unlock no matter how good the handle lock is.

An outer roll-down shutter like a lock-up shop?
