Savings and benefits 10th Jul 17 at 9:35 PM

Just a quick question - with regards to benefits and savings do they only regard the amount in savings account or also in banks? For example, I have ~£5500 in savings (HtB, LISA and regular savers account) but I'm currently -£1500 in my overdraft (student so it's free and a deliberate choice) so would they class me as having £5500 in savings or £4000?

I also regularly save into all 3 accounts so I imagine I will hit £6000 either in the next 3 or 4 months (if £5500) or within the next year or two (if £4000) - do I have to inform them of when I hit this amount or do they have some way of just knowing?
