My spending and debt free diary! 2nd Jul 17 at 5:16 PM
After lurking for a very long time I've decided to start my own journey! I've been debt free before then decided to spend more than our means! It's now got to the point I'm spending on the credit cards for no reason at all and just for silly things for the house!

I've always planned to make sure we had emergency savings in case something happened but we never quite got there and something happened! My husband was cycling home from work when he hit the curb to hard and fell off his bike! He broke his elbow and now has to have 6 weeks off work! He took a holiday for the first week but we now have 5 weeks of sick pay! It will be a reduction of nearly £300 per payday! He gets paid fortnightly. Luckily his dad said he will pay our rent for the month and it's just the council tax we have to find but its so stressful! Savings would have been great!

He goes back to work on 26th July so counting down the days! I'm going to use this as a 'what we spent today' diary then hopefully when we have a regular income again a debt free diary!

Anyway some background! We are a family of four! My dd will be 7 in 2 weeks and my ds will be 4 on Xmas day! My and my dh have been married for 5 years! Life is good apart from money! My husband works full time but on a zero hour contract and I am a carer for my uncle. Will post a soa soon!

    With love x

Nsd for us today! Decided we are going to do a balance transfer and cut up the Halifax account! We are just using it like a current account and it's not the best situation!

Tomorrow is pay day and food shop day! Hopefully will keep under £40 this week! Need to buy food for dd birthday on Sunday! Xx

    Car fund: £50
    Food shop: £35

    Total: £85

Not too bad for our food shop! My husband goes back to work soon so we are starting to look at tackling our debt! We have just apply for a new credit card to do a balance transfer for the big debt! So that should be sorted soon then we will pay the balance as quick as we can! All other accounts will be closed. We should be getting his first pay back from work around 4th August!

Worrying about Xmas already though! We normally throw it all on the cards but really don't want to this year! Our sons birthday is Xmas day aswell! I'm going to start his birthday day so we have at least that done! Christmas shopping will be started 1st September! Sales and discount shops! Going to limit family presents. One year I would love not to worry about every single penny we spend.

    14th July
    Today's spends

    Birthday party stuff: £12
    Takeaway: £9

Birthday party all sorted now! Daughter decided she wanted a party a few weeks before her birthday! She has also decided she wants completely different presents! She will have to wait till Xmas for her new list!

The takeaway was naughty! I can't control myself! I've been getting testing done about my stomach pains and I finally got the all clear on my bloods which is a huge relief so we celebrated by putting greasy food in my stomach... Logic anyone??

No more though I need to eat healthy and save money! My husband balance transfer looks like it's going ahead no idea about the length of the transfer need to wait for his card to get the details! I know it means our debt has gone up but hopefully this will give us motivation to get it paid off!

It's my 30th birthday next year and I really wanted to be debt free before then! Plus I want a holiday abroad! We have not been abroad as a family of four yet and we haven't been since out daughter was 1 she will be 7 on Sunday! But we need to make sure we can afford it all!

Need to go to town tomorrow and get daughters balloon! (Already purchased as it was a rare unicorn balloon that they said wouldn't be in stock by her birthday!) daughter has a horse riding lesson but this is paid for by my parents!

5 days till hubby is back in work!! Conveniently the kids break up on Friday so won't get much time to myself! The summer holidays need to be planned!

    Let's clear this debt!
Husband got paid today he only got basic sick pay but it was more than we thought. so the money we have been keeping back, (in case his pay was bad) we decided to use this to make a payment towards the debts!

    Debt 2 - £100 started at £675 now £575
    Debt 4 - £100 started at £1966 now £1866

We now owe a total of £2807 (including the debt 3, which is our sofa)

Going to aim on getting debt 2 gone first as this is interest bearing.

    Debt plan
    £250 a month for debt 2
    £50 a month for debt 4
    £45 a month for debt 3

Once debt 2 is paid we will pay £300 a month on debt 4

Hopefully debt free before I'm 30 at the end of April

    Today's spends

Cardigan £10 - school logo cardigan! Rip off but needs buying!
    Sofa £45.75 - debt reduction!!

However I'm treating today as a nsd! I stayed away from the shop and actually did sound exercise instead! School uniform money was withdrawn a few days ago!

Tomorrow is a busy day I'm going to be at the hospital all day having a ct scan.. Hoping to find free parking fingers crossed! Husband in work all day and dd finishes school half day so had to find a babysitter for both kids! Parents kindly offered!

We sat down for a family meeting and kids have decided that we can sacrifice big days out this summer if we go abroad on holiday next year! Haven't been on holiday in 6 years! So we have made, probably a stupid idea, but we are going to put this on an empty credit card and pay it off at £100 a month! I know not very mse but we really need a holiday!
