Theres a phone number or an assesment to fill which will tell you if you eligible for a Visa.

You could always be smuggled in.

easiest way would probably to do it through your employer? the people that I know that live in US now were relocated through work (although even after many years their spouses still cannot work) is that an option?
Do you have critical skills that may be in short supply in US (an ex-colleagues husband was a Metallurgist which got them to US)
Do you have lots of money to open a business in the US and employ Americans? ($500k?)
    Marry an American?
Green card lottery - UK citizens are currently not eligible to enter (apart from those born in Northern Ireland) maybe in future years....although probably was much chance as winning any lottery!

why would you want to move there?

As Caz posted - the easiest way is through skill sets whereby you can do something in short supply in the US. If thats the case then the US employer will do all of the paper work to get your visa sorted for you.

I lived and worked in the US for a few years this way

If Corbyns commies take over you might get political asylum like Cubans after Castros revolution.

Seriously, the answer to the OP is very easy. Anyone whose skills command a salary of more than about £100K would be welcomed in the USA: so simply work hard in your present career; get yourself to that sort of level; then fill in the forms and off you go. If you are not that ambitious then simply get a PhD in a subject like Computer Science and again you are likely to be welcomed.
