Cancelled sky - what are my options? 18th Jun 17 at 5:49 PM
I had sky Q fitted yesterday, as did my daughter 8 miles away.
I had mine installed & was told it's an extra £20 for the Touchscreen remote, so I paid by card, it will be posted to me.

An hour later, my daughters is fitted & she's handed the touchscreen remote for free!

I rang sky today to get my £20 back, I'm not paying for something they are giving other customers for free.

They'd give me £15 or a &20 M&S or Tesco voucher, for the principle of the matter I wouldn't accept it, I wanted my full £20.

So I've ended up cancelling. Part of the cancellation involves me getting my £20 back!!! So I've had my refund.

    What now?

I've got a dish, no real Ariel.

Do I go to a sky competitior or do I get a free box.

I want the ability to record on the box & series link.
Don't watch sports, I have Netflix so I'm not bothered about film channels.

Just want to record programmes on channels 1 to 5.

You could buy a freesat box with a hard drive to record programmes

A Freesat box is your best option really.

What no one has pointed out yet is that the Sky Q system uses a different (incompatible for anything but Sky Q) LNB on the end of the dish. They would have to change it for either a hybrid (allowing the use of either or both) or a straight HD+ LNB. How difficult that is would depend on the location of the dish.

As @Inner Zone said above I suspect they got a 1TB box and the daughter got the 2TB one. They come with different remotes.

I have to ask the OP (@Kim kim) why, if none of the Sky channels are needed, they went to the expense of getting a Q system in the first place to only then turn their nose up at £20?

Live without PVR features, and you can get all you need for no outlay at all.

Yes, the Sky Q decoder will also be collected by Sky when the cancellation takes effect, so even Free-To-Air channels will no longer be viewable.

However, that also means the OP is not limited to a Freesat solution. The dish needs to be converted as you point out, so a roof aerial (and Freeview) may be a more convenient option.

As others have suggested, there is also the option of NowTV for subscription channels like Sky Atlantic.

But I think a freesat box might pay for itself in a few months.

My dish isn't in an arkward place, it's above my front porch.

Should I get the dish sorted for the other lnb or get the Ariel re wired?

Is there any difference between a freesat & a freeariel box?
