Car insurance claim - unrecoverable claim? 16th Jun 17 at 4:08 PM
My husband was involved in a car accident which was not his fault when a girl ran from the roadside into the side of his car. She was unhurt and admitted fault, although the car had some damage (cracked windscreen, door rim and wing mirror). She admitted fault to the police and the details are in the police report. When he initially spoke to the insurance company they said that he wouldn't have to lose his no claim bonus or pay more. We have now been told that even though he is not at fault, the claim is unrecoverable (as obviously the other party does not have insurance) and therefore his no claims bonus has been reduced and his premiums for the next year have gone up.

    Does this sound right?

Yes. Fault isn't down to blame, it's down to the ability to recover costs.
If the claim was against his policy and not recovered, it's a fault claim.
