Car tax? 16th Jun 17 at 10:49 AM
    Hi there,

Does anyone know how long it takes car tax to show up on the government check if a car is taxed website??

I purchased a used car a few weeks ago and the dealer told me they'd taxed it. However yesterday I got a DVLA letter saying it was untaxed. I rang the dealer who investigated with the post office and found there had been a problem completing the transaction. They said it had now been taxed but would take a while to show up on the website. I have just checked and it is still showing as untaxed. I have midwife appointments today and don't really want to drive around in a a car with no tax!

It can take a few days. Maybe the 'Problem' was that the dealer hadn't bothered to tax it! Can you go to the dealer and ask for the receipt from the post office? Why didn't you just tax it yourself; would have been a lot simpler and you know its done?

Check they've taxed it in your name - it may have been cancelled by the DVLA if the dealer taxed it in their name, when you became the new keeper on the V5
