    Pants = underwear
    If you mean trousers, say trousers/jeans!

    No-one has zips in their pants i.e. underwear, unless they like being caught all unnecessary!

    It might be regional rather than an Americanism. There's a few corners of the UK that say pants rather than trousers. I've met a couple of folk from Manchester who do.

    Ditto with "mom". I've seen a couple of folk on here being asked if they're American when they say mom instead of mum, but it seems to be pretty common in some areas (Midlands is one).

    Because I'm a saddo and I was bored I had a google about that. And yes, it seems some Northern folk do refer to trousers as pants, as do the Americans. And underwear is underwear or underpants!

    I must admit I didn't realise it was a common term in the UK so I learned something new today

    Hold on in Northern Ireland they say Cacks for underwear. Amongst some other terms.
