Wrong (ish) BIC Code 13th Jun 17 at 9:28 PM
    Hi,
Hoping someone can tell me if they've had a similar issue and the out come.

We have some funds being transferred from the USA, Citi Bank to our account in the UK, Co-operative Bank.

The sending bank has given the correct IBAN number but they have sent using a slightly different BIC number to what we normal use. The BIC code they used is still for a co-op bank, but for a branch is in Stockport, BIC - CPBK GB21 SBD. The one we normally use is just the co-op head office, BIC Code which is the one co-op tells us to use, BIC - CPBK GB22

    Everything else is correct...

I've spoke to someone at co-op and all they could say is that it may hit our account, or it may bounce back or get lost, in which case we would have to do a trace.

Has this ever happen to anyone before? Where a BIC code going to the correct bank company but to the wrong branch has been used.... and did the money hit your account as normal ?

    Thank in advance

It's impossible to say for sure but being as they've used the correct IBAN there's every chance that it'll be routed to your account regardless of the incorrect BIC. The IBAN gives sufficient information for your bank to locate your branch.

Sorry that I've not been able to give you any certainty on this.
I got a letter from the government the other day. I opened it and read it. It said they were suckers.

CPBK GB21 SBD appears to be the BIC for their Business Direct department.

It will probably still get there as the bank won't handle international credits at branch level - will likely be a single department for the whole of Co-op/Smile.
