This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning all,

Just got up with the little hound so I thought I'd pop me head round the door. It's almost 5am and hubby will be heading out the door shortly.

Youngest didn't come home last night he did a full shift at Milton Keynes and bedded down for the night in Sussex where he is working on a new project today. It's so quiet without him.

Another peaceful night for hubby. This is silly...how can 3 bars of soap under the sheet make such a difference to the quality of his sleep? He was fast asleep when I came to bed and hasn't moved all night. Maybe I ought to prod him to see if he's breathing.

Mission for today...ask me when I'm awake.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Morning all and thank you for the thread Judi.

A better night for me but have woken to a cool, grey day. Never mind, I don't need to be out and as it really does look as though it is going to pour down, am glad of that.

I made lasagne last night and managed to achieve portion control. OH pointed out that with something like that, I seem to cook for 3 even though DS is away. Was good, with loads of salad, am not good at portion control with salad but I do eat lots of that.

Nothing much on my personal agenda today. I'm finding that I get so tired on working days that on days off, I've little energy left to do exciting things. So I am just recharging my flat batteries today.

Hope everyone has a good day

    Morning everyone

Judi - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Light, sun trying to break through the cloud, but seems like it's going to be an ok day, I'll put the washing out shortly when I water the plants.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was pasta and mushrooms in a creamy sauce with breaded chicken pieces for the menfolk, I had pasta with a slice of the gammon that I'd cooked on Sunday. Menfolk then saw the gammon and wanted a slice of that too, so that hasn't stretched as far as I would have liked, but everyone was happy and the chicken pieces are not big at all. There is still some sliced gammon left in the fridge. Tonight we'll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Work wasn't ever so busy but steady and eased off in the afternoon, we'll see what today brings.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

    Guess what? Yep, it's raining!

Had a good game of netball last night, staff won 19-6. I have never thought of myself as a good aim but I scored 16 of those goals! My knees are suffering this morning, bet the kids are as agile as ever! Hoping a good swim will help.

Washing hanging about here, DW emptied and packed lunch of salad made. It will be a chicken leg for dinner with lots of veggies.

Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX

    Morning.

Slept like a log and woke early.

It's still a very watery outlook here. Once again I lit the fire mid afternoon and enjoyed just watching it. I spent most of the afternoon reading on the sofa though I had a little foray into the small barn too. There's still a box of newspaper to go out and a couple of shelves to tidy to make it more presentable.

I got all my assessments onto CD only to mess up the two pieces of paper which have to go in as hard copies. That meant a quick trip into the college to have replacements printed. So annoying!

As for today, I've got a hospital run for an elderly woman to do at 12.30, she's only seeing a nurse so won't be long, and then I'm expecting a wine delivery later in the afternoon. I've got a pile of papers to read for two meetings in Oban tomorrow which'll keep me occupied / bored for the rest of the day.

No washing or shopping happening here.

I hope everyone has a peaceful and happy Tuesday.

    Morning everyone,

Thank you for starting us off Judi

Hugs to those that are unwell or having a difficult time at the moment.

I managed to get one door painted yesterday, and now it is dry I am pleased with my efforts. I was worried it would be patchy with this water based paint but it isn’t at all. It could be because when I had them put in three years ago they were painted with it then. So it is really just a refresh rather than a start from scratch sort of job.

I will have a break from it today though. I don’t want to keep at it until I get too exhausted to finish or too fed up with it. I will leave it now and do another one next weeks.

If it stays nice dry sunny day I want to go over and meet my sister in law for a coffee. They live in a nice market town with some good independent shops and I need to get a couple of birthday presents. It is also my niece’s 21st birthday in July and I want her to help me choose a gift.

First, I need to go and get something for dinner tonight out of the freezer to defrost.

I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are doing.

    Good morning
Sunny again, if we could just have some rain at night that would be wonderful, save me watering the garden.
Well Christmas is officially over, have just eaten the last tin of Christmas biscuits. Bought a box of chocs and a box of nice choc biscuits and shortbread in case some one came to visit, and they didn't, so I've 'tidied' the cupboard and eaten them.
Not much planned, maybe continue with my deep clean, tidy of kitchen. May even find some more goodies
    Have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

    Good morning everyone

It's a bright and sunny morning here today. Hubby and DD's16 and 17 have left for school and DD14 hasn't appeared yet. I managed a bit of a lie in so I feel very happy.

Nothing planned for today apart from sewing up some of the knitted toys I made. This is my least favourite job so tends to get put off but my knitting bag is bulging with unfinished projects so I need to clear some space, besides it will be nice to see the finished item.

I'm cooking burgers and chips for tea so no prep needed. The moroccan baked chicken and rice was a big hit so I will definitely make that again. Inspired by another thread I will probably make some jam thumb print cookies too as the girls love them.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning everyone and what a beautiful sunny morning it is as well. Looks like its set for the day which is a bonus. I have a busy day today this morning I have a U3A coffee morning and its my turn to 'chair' it, then tonight its quiz night at the pub.I always enjoy that as it means I have a night off from cooking (meal thrown in with the price of the quiz ). after coffee morning i shall whizz round to let the dogs out and DGS Henry will be there as he only has one exam this morning and then he is home from school.Yesterday bless him he helped in their garden by breaking up the old fence that was replaced on Saturday.he is such a good lad and is always willing to give me a hand if he can.I have promised him we shall go out for lunch next Monday and he can choose where we eat.
He has worked so hard on his exams and even done extra after school revision voluntarily.

Tomorrow is the AGM for our local branch of U3A in the afternoon so its going to be a bit of a rush tomorrow as I have an appointment in Faversham in the morning as well. I just don't know sometimes ,I think I could do with an extra 10 hours in my day at times ,still keeping busy is good for the mind apparently when you get erm ...a little older

Hope you all have an excellent day and <<hugs>> to those who are finding life tough at the moment

    Cheers JackieO xx

Morning (((((((((( hugs )))))))))) if you need one.

Better nights sleep, I woke just after 6am, went to the loo and snoozed on, OH has just brought my breakfast in. Towels in the washer overnight, it has rained during the night, but hopefully the washing will dry.

Off to see friends this afternoon, will take them some rhubarb, strawberries and also some blackberries from the freezer, have 2 bags left, our blackberry is flowering, and it looks like we will have a bumper crop, the raspberries are also flowering, they are OH's favourites.

    Good morning one and all,

Yesterday was a busy day at work. I had to take clients to lunch and the menu wasn't particularly healthy or appetising and ended up having mac n cheese with garlic bread and chips - it was nice but very heavy on the carbs which is something I'm trying to avoid. So I resigned myself to a cheat day. I stopped off on the way home for some comfort food and watched a movie.

Back aboard the health train this morning. Been to the gym this morning and might go afterwards but I recon I'll be late leaving work.

Little bit of housework to do tonight but nothing too strenuous.

Camelot - Fantastic effort last night, well done!
Jackie - Henry sounds like a lovely chap. Good luck tonight with the quiz.

    Morning everyone,

Up late for me as I had a bad night so DOH sorted the girls before he left to see a client.

Beautiful day here in EA, the WM is already on, will just potter around this morning and then off to my Pilates class. We are out this evening to eat with friends so no cooking to do, will need to find something relatively good on the menu as am on a weight loss campaign.

Have a good day folks x

    Morning all,

Lovely bright day here I have a towel load on the line which should dry well today.

I m going to have a quick clean up of the kitchen and then head off to Aldi we need a big stock up shop, I will ring my mum and see if she wants to go.

Not sure about dinner tonight will pick something up when I am out, I cooked the enchiladas last night which were very tasty, but both OH and I felt very uncomfortable and kind of bloated and had bad indigestion after so there must have been something in there that did not agree with us.

DD should get her car back today, although neither of us trust it anymore, we have found a few cars in dealers online so have made a list and will go and have a look on Saturday.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning.

Well the never ending saga of no sleep continues apace.

After 3 hours sleep on Sunday night, I was exhausted yesterday. I went to bed at 11pm with my book, but whilst my eyes were so tired and I struggled to read the minute I shut them I felt beyond strange and restless.

A really odd sensation almost like my heart was up in my throat and I felt like I was falling or swirling round.....no I'm not on drugs
It was so odd...I gave up numerous times and started reading again but every time my eyes wanted to shut, minute I did shut them, I the same sensation. So I got up but my body was so tired that I felt like I was swaying around and my legs had no strength.

This continued and I had a cup of tea, read, shut my eyes, read again until eventually going back to bed at 4am and eventually slept...No way I could cope with work and as I have had a work induced bad back for a few weeks, I stayed off sick.

Perhaps I was just over-tired, if there is such thing, but I don't want a repeat of that ever again, it was horrible. I duly feel dreadful again today, so a duvet day it is.

Sorry I've wittered on a bit there

Hope everyone is well and having a good day x

Karcher maybe you could try lying on top of the bed with your book this afternoon, and just "rest", then if you fall asleep you needed it. I do think you had got to maximum exhaustion, and personally think you should consider a visit to your dr for a fit note to support reduced hours or a lower workload? Look into the fit note on gov.uk for proper advice

Gorgeous afternoon and I'm sitting in the sun in Dds garden ,her dogs are lolling around on the decking and the little westie is keeping a sharp eye out for any passing bird (he barks at all birds )they dare not even fly over the garden

Henry did his last Math exams this morning and seemed to be pleased with how it went .Two more exams tomorrow, Science and a Business Studies, then one on Friday morning Geography, then he can relax as it will all be over
I am very proud of how well he has coped as he is not really terribly academic at all, although his best subject is Spanish which for some reason he excels at We shall have to see how his results pan out. He has been offered a place at 6th form so his teachers have faith in him and his abilities.

DGS Ben has had his end of year results and he is set for a high 2.1 at the moment He has one more year to go so fingrs crossed for him.

Such a stressful time for youngsters doing exams I am glad its all done almost ,I seem to have gone through all their traumas with them one more grandson Mikey to get through his GCSE's but he is just 13 so he has a year or so to go yet. I think I should get one for 'Grannying'them all over the past few years. I have been making snacks and consoling all of the previous 5 grandchildren it seems for years .

Hope everyone is getting a bit of the sunshine although it seems to be mainly in the south at the moment

    Cheers chums

    Afternoon all.
The weather has been very warm but a bit overcast today and I wish I'd done some washing. Hopefully it will be the same tomorrow and I'll give the WM one last go before it bites the dust next Tuesday. As there are only two of us, I will keep any more washing in the basket ready to test the new one .
I'm a bit late posting today as we took dad shopping over the valley road, mainly to Fa*mFoods, as it's easier to park near the shop when you bulk buy toilet rolls etc. We decided to have lunch out ( my turn to pay ) then took dad home. While I was there remade his bed as he had stripped the bedding off this morning.
Have not long returned but put shopping away and now sat with a coffee, DH is having a cheese sandwich with his but I'm too full, so may have a doughnut later. I just don't know how those doughnuts fell into my trolley, it's a complete mystery .
Hope all the poorlies get well soon and hugs to all.
JackieO I wish Henry and Ben good luck with their exams.
Karcher are you taking any medication that could affect you ? Sometimes my meds ( for my stomach ) make me feel like the whole bed is shaking but it's actually me and it only happens when I lie down.

Afternoon from a very damp, dreich and dull Gers Towers!

There has been no let up in the rain today, piddling down steadily all day. Not as cold as yesterday and the wind is much lighter too, but still pouring.

First thing this morning I finally sorted out my student's work onto two CDs (two courses) and managed to remember the rest of the paperwork too. They're now in envelopes for tomorrow. Then I had my little old lady to take to see the nurse for her 'MOT' as she called it. She's really interesting actually as she's from Tiree and went back over recently for a family reunion when 84 others turned up. It was lovely to hear about it all.

This afternoon was spent waiting for my wine delivery which turned up about 40 minutes ago. Maje*tic Wine delivers free of charge and come up to Mid Argyll and the peninsula at least once a fortnight.

I did some more work in the back barn again, I find doing small bits often more productive than the whole lot at once. There's another bag of old newspapers in the car for the tip. I managed to get the battery off the power drill eventually so that's now charging, and I found the proper box and the box of drill bits too so they're now back together again. The shelves are almost all tidy, just one corner to re-arrange and I'll be happier.

Nearly an hour was spent watching Fearless on catch up, I was dithering as some reviews were bad and some were good, however I really enjoyed it, especially with the sound off! Can't bear the 'threatening' music all the time, so subtitles on and speech off. Perfect.

Now I'm going to read, I started a new book yesterday so want to get my stack down a bit before Christmas when the new ones come out. I took a bagful of read ones to the doctors surgery today along with my little old lady, they sell them for charity.

Right, enough waffling! Happy evening to you all.
