    Weekly Flylady Thread 12th June 2017 11th Jun 17 at 9:37 PM

What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Right now the thread is looking very quiet...but please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Natty for last week's thread

It is your responsibility to read the forum rules, please follow them on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!

Must remember to take out the food waste bin when I leave this afternoon - I forgot DH put our deceased furry visitor in there and got a shock earlier

Evening all. Lots of ((hugs)) all round, as there seems to be a lot going on with everyone.

ATB - pay up quickly vibes for your bad payer. It must be a worry, but if there's anything we can do, just shout.
Bossy - I do most of our decorating here, but I do draw the line at the stairwell. That could be why there are cobwebs up in the corners, come to think about it!

I haven't posted for a couple of days, but have been keeping up with the lists. I went out for lunch yesterday with a couple of lovely friends who I haven't seen for ages. We swapped Christmas presents, if that gives a clue as to how long it's been! I wasn't too impressed with my lunch tbh, but we had a good natter. I was even less impressed with my lunch when I spent the evening and night feeling rough!

This morning I decided to wash and hang out the chair and cushion covers before work as it was lovely and sunny. Unfortunately the wind got up in the day, and I came home to find 2 covers at the end of the garden!! Luckily they hadn't blown over the hedge...
Bathroom finally cleaned, dinner cooked, wudupa, paperwork dealt with, garden pots watered. Bathroom stayed clean and tidy for all of 5 minutes

Thanks folks, I'm going to get someone in to do it...

Was quite productive this morning with 3 bathrooms cleaned, 2 lots of laundry done, dried and put away (on in one case back on my bed, lol), kitchen tidied, desk tidied, online forms for docs done, chazzer bag filled, kids delivered around various sports clubs, fed, washed and bums smacked only kidding lol

Now to bed from me as the little bugg@rs didn't let me sleep last night and I'm bushed!

Tomorrow I've an award assembly for DS - English star apparently but he doesn't know why <rollseyes> then to collect a parcel I missed today - hopefully birthday gifts for parties this weekend... Then maybe a visit to the tip with some household grot!

Glad you enjoyed your walk FBO thinking of you xx

I can't remember who it was that said that all my busy-ness made them feel tired, but it makes me feel tired too However, it's a good tiredness rather than sheer exhaustion, IYSWIM.

I have had a day off from my placement today so filled the morning with a meeting on the outskirts of Cathedral City. I took myself there, while DH and his friend went in DH's car to the city centre to look round the cathedral. Plan was to meet at a nearby NT property for lunch. I arrived at 12.15... and waited... and waited... and at 1.10 I got a phonecall from DH to say that he'd got a flat tyre and was waiting for the man with the yellow van; could I come and pick up his friend and he'd follow us to the NT property later. DH had been following the satnav, so hadn't got a clue where he was. Fortunately I guessed correctly which route he had taken and was able to work out where he was to within 10 yards The yellow van man was already there and was putting his spare on DH's car so that he could drive round the corner to a tyre repair centre. I said I would take his friend to the NT place but suggested that, because it might take an hour or more to get the tyre sorted, it would be best if DH brought himself home and caught up with some sleep. He looked as if he needed it It turned out that he had kerbed the wheel and thus only has himself to blame for the cost of the repair. Meanwhile I had to pay for lunch and ice creams for two, which I had not budgeted for (having done the big shop yesterday with extras for DH's friend). I'm not at all happy about that, though I must admit did enjoy the sunshine and beautiful gardens

WMx1 ran itself while we were out (anybody else remember twin tubs? - automatics are a doddle by comparison). After our evening meal I did 2x MAD half-hours back to back in which I painted another fence panel, then drove DH and his friend to a real ale pub in town. Came home and watered the flower pots, hanging baskets and and veg, reclaimed the TV for an hour, folded a load of dry washing and did QHI, all before the two reprobates rolled up on the doorstep, having taken a taxi home DH has plonked himself in front of the TV and will probably be asleep within 5 minutes. I'm going to bed - got to help at a toddler group tomorrow morning and will need plenty of energy as well as eyes in the back of my head!

    G'night all.

I hope you're feeling better this morning, pigpen.

ionafan, visiting the NT property sounds good with the sunshine and gardens, but not the unplanned spends on tyre repair, lunches and ice creams! I had a twin tub when I first left home, but it didn't drain properly, so I had to bail it out with a marge tub!

Work on Wednesday & had course after, so didn't get home till gone 7.30 - just did dailies and pulled a few tall weeds out of the lawn when I got the washing in.

Yesterday was my day off with lots of plans, so DS2 decided to be difficult again and I didn't get him to school till gone 11.30 .

This was triply annoying as 1 - he was playing up again, 2 - I wanted to strip his bed & wash it with DS1's chef whites, and 3 - I had plans to meet a friend for lunch. However, managed to get him in in the end, then got home & shoved the washing on quickly to hope it would be done before I needed to go out again. (I don't leave the machine on with no-one in the house - many years ago, mum had a couple of washing machines catch fire while washing, so I'd worry too much if I did.) Ran round his tip with the bin and vacuum cleaner.

Window cleaners caught me on the way out, so paid them, met friend for lunch and a good chat, got home, shoved more washing on (4th load by now lol), whizzed round the kitchen to move the table to give DS2 more leg room, dashed off to see his SENCO at school and put in a CAF to get him the help he needs - he's feeling so down about himself and of course that is affecting him getting to school. Hopefully we'll get something started before before the summer hols.

Whiz home again, do more in kitchen and finish mopping floor before going to get him from after school club that he then said he doesn't want to do anymore.

Welcome meandthe2 remember Rome wasn't built in a day xx

Very quiet on here. Perhaps you're all cleaning up I certainly haven't been

Had a cuppa with my mum earlier, collected my parcel, sorted online access for the doctors (yaay, just ordered DD repeat meds without having to budge out of my chair ), washed her bedding from yesterday, then spent the afternoon reading with my feet up how very dare I.

I've said no thanks to the most expensive quote, just waiting on one more this aft then I'll get in touch with the second one that came. I think realistically I'm not going to be able to do ceilings over the stairs without either putting myself in some danger or stressing out to the max, I can live without that, plus, 13 doors to paint, that's just mental!!! I'll paint the remaining walls of the playhouse instead...

Right, I'll go organise dinner and maybe push the vac round...

Eurgh, have just discovered the cat has been sick on the end of DS2's bed. Only grass sick, so she's fine. I know it's revenge for him saying she can't sleep in the cupboard under his bed, but he's not the 1 who'll be washing the sheets. Again. Sigh...

bossymoo, I think you're right to look at it realistically and get someone else to do the painting. I don't mind doing walls, don't like doing ceilings because I don't like heights but I can do them. But hallway ceilings are so high, and 13 doors! I would (cough cough, have) bought the paint with the best intentions and then it just sits there because I know how much work it will be for me to get the job done.

Morning all. Hope you're all ok this morning. What a lovely day.

I'm quite pleased with the flying I eventually achieved before the paid stuff this week. Every room has had some attention and all the windows are clean.

This morning I have taken Poppet to the vet to have her stitches removed. Unfortunately she has some swelling so lead walks only for the next couple of weeks.

Today, I am going to put a hat on and just potter in the garden.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Hiya,

Washing fluttering in the sunshine, been flying at footie hq, toilets were disgusting so three of us mums donned our rubber gloves and wielded mops etc. Showered DS and liberally applied sunscreen - just packed him off to his buddies for a party and will go collect DD from rehearsal in half an hour. She will be broken, lol. And she's got a party later too

Going to blow our paddling pool up later, too...

Then, because I love him, I will let OH go in Home 'not really Bargains' (its not a bargain if you never really needed it in the first place!)

3 loads of washing out on the line.
    DW x2

OH minced grass and I weeded.. pruning later.. in next doors garden.. I am shameless!

Phew but it's hot out there!
Went for a run early this morning and it was still too warm, so we walked up all the hills. And down some as well.
DD has been deposited at the stables where she will be melting in riding gear, I have just made bread (to take to a do tonight) and a cake ( to take to FiL as pud for tomorrow's lunch). I might change my name to Nigella but it was no fun having the oven on. DH is playing in the garden....he seems to be building some kind of structure but I daren't ask what....
As you can see, minimal flying!

Evening all. Spent 5 hours in the garden, still loads to do. Spinach harvested and frozen. No flying indoors.

    See you all tomorrow.

    Morning All

Went out on Friday night, had one too many glasses of wine then yesterday we were at a family wedding and I seemed to have yet more wine

I thought it would be fine, as kiddies didn't go to bed until 10 last night, but good old DS still got up at 5.45.... Anyway, I've had three cups of builders tea so feeling a bit more chipper. DH snoring his head off.

DW has been loaded and put on, WM is going and I have just cleaned all the kitchen sides down. Kiddies already playing outside on the decking.

DH leaving for work at 3pm (away all week, again...) so we will potter, get the paddling pool out and I might try and sneak a nap in before he goes.

It's very quiet on here, I hope everyone is making the most of the sun and keeping well xx

the weather is disgusting.. I am not leaving the house today.. not even to peg out washing! I am going to distress the boys.. I want their bedding... hahahahaha...

1 ebeast item to parcel up and some wool sales to sort and i need to order some bits for DD3 for her trip in August.

OH appears to like his fathers day bits so I can at least do one thing right.
