    Hi, has anyone applied?

We're eligible and applied but not received our code yet - anyone know how long this takes?

It's been over a week and we've not heard anything back yet

I understand that it takes a bit longer to get the code if one or both the parents are self employed, especially if there is not a full years worth of taxes paid. The site links into the HMRC site to do checks so some parents have been getting the code straight away, but others will need extra checks due to less information being available I have been told. There are a lot of applications at this time, so I understand there is a bit of a back log on the extra checks.

We are currently receiving it for our 4 year old son as it is being trialled early in North Yorkshire. From start to finish the process took a couple of weeks but I think thats because we were being guinea pigs.

My son becomes eligible in September so got a bit of time. How far in advance do the nursery need the code?

Tried 9 times yesterday and twice today to apply over the phone.

The person gets so far and then their system says 'technical difficulties'

Really don't know what to do now

I did it online and got mine instantly. I was suprised at how easy it was but have friends who are struggling to get theirs. I guess you just have to keep trying

i didn't realise we had to apply for a code! do some of the nurserys/preschools apply on your behalf? i didn't have to apply for the 15 hours for my eldest but my youngest will be eligable for 30 hours from January.

The 30 hrs is different from the 15 in that only certain families are eligible, hence having to apply for it.

Good luck! Although the system seems to be working now so you should be ok.

I think you may be a little early to apply now for January. My son is eligible from September as he was born in May 2014
