I have got a courtesy car, its a ford focus 2017. After I turned the engine off earlier the fan in the engine carried on for about a minute, made quite some noise too! Does anyone know if this is normal. Not been driving long, and its way to technical for me lol.

Thanks!

Was it after a fairly long, fast journey? Perfectly normal, I had a Focus 1.6 Auto which did the same after getting hot.

To put your mind at rest, call the company and explain, they will tell you not to worry.

Could have been the AC, the aircon often has a separate fan (not talking about the cabin blower).

  • Our 1.6, 2015 model did it all the time. Don't worry about it.

If it's the 1.0, it will be because of the turbo.

Perfectly normal - a lot of fans keep on running after the engine has stopped, just to cool everything down and prevent hot-spots. Don't worry about it.

I first encountered this many years ago with a hire car - I spent 10 minutes worrying and trying to find anything in the handbook about it. Not helped by the fact that I was in France, so the handbook was in French!

Nothing to worry about, common on modern cars.

  • If the car's a diesel it was possibly in the process of a DPF regeneration when it was turned off.
