    .....and what do you hate?

    Top 3 of each.

Been away for 18 years and occasionally think about moving back but not sure.

    What do you think?

The main reason for moving back would be to be back amongst our own...although after 17 years away I am not sure it is our own anymore

Suddenly, in the space of a moment, I realized what it was that I loved about Britain - which is to say, all of it. Every last bit of it, good and bad - Marmite, village fetes, country lanes, people saying 'mustn't grumble' and 'I'm terribly sorry but', people apologizing to me when I conk them with a nameless elbow, milk in bottles, beans on toast, haymaking in June, stinging nettles, seaside piers, Ordnance Survey maps, crumpets, hot-water bottles as a necessity, drizzly Sundays - every bit of it.

    I love

The weather. It is interesting and variable, my idea of hell on earth would be to live in a hot country

The scenery, we have some of the most beautiful in the world and for such a small country it is infinitely variable

The NHS. I owe them a great deal especially over the last few years. The medical staff have been beyond brilliant

    What I don't like

The obsession people have with mobile phones, especially people who wander across the road without looking

The obsession people have with football. Some of us don't like it

The high cost of a lot of things

I'm living in Spain so a slightly different take on things possibly.

    Likes:
    • Knowing how organisations 'work' and where to go, e.g. problem with bins being emptied I know which dept. to phone.
    • Relatively honest local politicians.
    • A decent cup of tea .

    Dislikes:

    • Weather. Not just the rain and cold but the dark winter months when some days it never seems to get light.
    • Prices, especially for eating out and drinks. £20 for two glasses of wine and a pint, equivalent 'quality' of establishment in Spain €8.
    • Traffic and crowds in general.
    • Booze culture
    • Vacuous materialism
    • Benefits and entitlement culture
OK that's more than three dislikes and I had to think about the likes, which says it all really!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    Like.

    Clotted cream.
    The NHS.
Pear shaped ladies. (I married one.)

    Dislike.

The disgraceful activities of the unregulated private parking industry, bringing misery to thousands of people everyday.
Vitriolic treatment of some people by others who have a different opinion.
    Thinking that celebrities are newsworthy.

Some of these are not necessarily a UK trait though.

I like the fact that I can stand on the roof of my house waving the union jack and shouting at the top of my voice "I am a proud englishman and conquerer of many lands!"

Without anybody taking a blind bit of notice..
