Child Benefit help 18th Apr 17 at 1:39 PM
My Wife & I are considering trying for a child & are working out the finances before we commit.

She has 2 children from her previous relationship & claims child benefit for them. I understand that you can now only claim for your first 2 children?

This may sound like a stupid question, but could I claim child benefit for a child we had together? There's no guidance that says it should be the mother that claims and in theory, I would be claiming for my first child?..

I'm not trying to cheat the system, we are just trying to work out what our finances would be like & I am making sure all options are looked at.

I was wondering if this is something that others had done or tried.

Thought this only applied to child tax credits? If so you can't claim separate as it's a joint claim.
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions

Can you point me to your source as bit concerned about this and my own future plans.

Knew about the tax credits changes but not child benefit :-(

This change only applies to CTC, not CB.

  • Who do you think came out best in the Corbyn v May battle tonight?

  • Clever by Paxman; subtly testing out "strong & stable" by focusing on u-turns on Brexit view, social care, self employed tax & election date

  • Ps sadly i got in too late to have seen Corbyn, hence why no comment on his performance
