Does anyone know their Vaillant boilers that can help please? 18th Apr 17 at 1:25 PM
Ok, might be a long shot here but our older Vaillant combi boiler has developed a fault. An enginer has diagnosd that it will require a new PCB board and 'wiring harness'.
The enginer stated that although he could source the PCB it seemed unlikely he could source this wiring harness-noted as brittle due to the age of the boiler- but the boiler after a full reset seems to operate fine. I know this only a temporary fix, so I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on what this 'wiring harness' could be so I could do some of my research?

Also, just being curious, if the PCB was at fault would the boiler even still work at all?

Make is a Vaillant Maxi VCW-GB 242/282 EH

Thanks for any help or advice as usual

It looks like your boiler is from the mid 90's and some of the spares have been made obsolete by the manufacturer. The wiring harness is a bunch of differently coloured cables with push on connectors at one end and spade connectors at the other, all made up at the right length with the right type of connector at each end. I am surprised that the complete harness (or loom) is brittle. It MIGHT be possible to replace parts of it or a competent electrical engineer could make one up for you. Is your engineer telling you the harness has failed or just saying it is brittle looking?

I just had to change the PCB in my own boiler (not a Vaillant) but it still worked. Fault was that it was not passing the correct voltage for main gas valve after flame established but the flame available was enough to heat the water (albeit slowly) and it was only that my engineer was carrying out an inspection and checking gas pressures that we found it.

Thanks a lot for your help.
    Found this on Ebay
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180672258272

Just wonder if yourself or anyone on here could clarify if this is the wiring the engineer would be referring to and if its the correct one for my boiler ?

    Thanks again

Has the two red/black switches on the left with ignition reset botton and red warning led to the left of those.
Radiator temp dial under those two switches.
2 guages on bottom right for 'Bar' & temperature.

If you see what i mean!

    Thanks again

Yes had 4 boards, a fan board, a ignition board, control board and a flame supervision board.

Haven't seen one for a while but I'd imagine it will have more then one loom.
