Window Quote, recording stating will do for free 18th Apr 17 at 9:50 AM
I have had (a right ball ache) verbal quote from Safestyle for all my windows and a door replacing, they give the same old tosh of being £21k 'quote' but if today can do for £14k...then got them down to under £13k, but I said from the start I wasn't going to purchase on the day.

Anyway, as I have had arguements over quotes before I recorded the conversation for my own reference (they were not aware). As leaving the guy stated his name and also that if I could find another company to quote under £17k Safestyle would do the job for free, even saying "phone up, quote my name xxxxxx xxxxx and Safestyle will do the job for free, because they know they can't be beaten on price and have never done a job for free"

Now spin on a month and I've another quote from a local company, no messing about and about £14.5k quote (including a fancy additional door)

I'm under no illusion that Safetstyle will do this for free now, but wondering where I stand legally/trading standards wise...if I fancy pushing the point... if nothing else they have really annoyed me in the process so may push them on it just to be an !!!!.

    Thoughts?

I suppose it's alright to wind them up if you enjoy that sort of thing, but you wouldn't want windows put in for free by a company that didn't really want to do it would you?
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

    You record conversations? Wow.

You must have a hell of a lot of windows and doors if it's costing you that much to replace them.

I've just had 4 windows and a upvc door fitted to a house I'm renovating for £1400. So, for your £14k quote, I'd be able to get 40 windows and 10 doors!

I'm not done with quotes yet, but hoping to get below £12k

They are under no contractual obligation to take your job for any price so don't waste your time.

They would possibly argue, 'yes we do the job for free - fitting, that is - all you do is BUY our windows'

But as mentioned, better off finding an alternative supplier, rather than waste any more time with them

After you've seen them cutting a window sill to length with a hand saw with one knee on a dustbin, you'd wonder if you have the right company, free or not.
