Tax credits and Carers Allowance 11th Apr 17 at 5:04 PM
As Carers allowance is counted as an income for tax credits,is it worth claiming as surely what you gain in Carers Allowance you would lose in Tax Credits or am i missing something?

    Thanks

can anyone explain why carers allowance stops when state pension starts, people do not stop caring

Both are earnings replacement benefits and you cannot claim two of these.

However, if the person is eligible for any means tested benefits, (for example, pension credit) then a carer's premium (about £30 ish a week) can be added on to that benefit.

Well my partner has put in a claim for carers allowance, phoned today to ask how it was progressing as it has just been over 3 weeks. No decision has been made yet, seemingly there is a backlog of claims which means it could take 4-6 weeks for a decision. So we will just need to wait and see.

A pensioner would not lose income by caring, so no CA is applicable.
