Bank asking for job status? 20th Mar 17 at 3:03 PM
    Hi,
I have just been to the bank to transfer some money to someone, I was asked if I was employed and I said "yes"
But I'm currently unemployed and receiving universal credit, I said I was employed to avoid them taking my overdraft away.

My question is will I get in trouble with DWP? Can they see I said I was employed? Or is it just a customer service thing, thank you

Your paranoia is unfounded. 'They' (banks & DWP) don't have that sort of access to each other's systems. Big brother is not here yet.

Well... Big Brother is here in a limited format. The "Connect" software used by HMRC seeks disparities in income. I doubt it would pick up on the issue identified in this question. It is usually things like the amount of interest paid would indicate someone in receipt of a means-tested benefit raises the question of whether they have capital in excess of the prescribed limit. PAYE data would be a further flag for an investigation.
