Getting out of the rut that has become life!!! 11th Feb 17 at 5:23 PM
Well here goes. I feel like that i have been stuck in a rut for the last ten years we have been renting the same house for the last ten years and are no longer forward than we were then. Me and Oh have two girls 12 an 7. Will do a soa later, but OH is not on board with the moneysaving. Anyway i know im rambling long term goal is to have somewhere of our own im 40 this year and feel that the time is right now to climb out of the rut that i am in.

I've spent today and yesterday bad me. Might just scrape in my target if 15nsds for feb. Had a letter from credit card saying they over charged me on interest so should get 50 credited good news also waiting for a credit from a certain home shopping channel as I had to return something faulty so that should mean at least 140 coming off the credit card.

Just when you think your at the bottom there is a whole pile of rubbish and then a bottom lower than you could imagine. Thats how i feel at the moment i phoned the tax credits jan to tell them i had a pay rise from jan i received a notification from them yesterday saying i have been overpaid this year by 1131.90, our award for the year was 1139.59 (7.59 is what they owed us from a previous award) so it looks like our tax credits awars will be 0 then for the coming years. I am worried now how they are going to get the overpayment back as if we should be getting 0 then how can you take back from nothing. On the plus side i have worked out that the child benefit will pay for DD2 to go to the childminder for the rest of the year, with the money for afterschool club having to come out of my wages will need to readjust my budget and tighten the purse strings looks like a bumpy time ahead.

Poor you - we found the shift to no tax credits really hard too.

Really feel for you. I also found that lower bottom pile of rubbish this last few months and it stinks doesn't it? I just can't seem to get on top of it all. It doesn't help reading what meals out, trips etc other people post about on social media.

I hang onto the positive things to keep me ploughing on. The giggles from the girls playing- they come free. The fact that if i say 'maybe' next time then they don't kick up a fuss. And the fact that one day the bills will be paid and i will know what it feels like being the bottom of beyond and not want to go back there.

I don't mean this as a negative post, more so as you are not alone and sometime realising that makes things easier.

I dont think this is negative thats how i feel at the moment i am considering a ban on social media as it is quite depressing lol. I need like you said to appreciate the small things as these are the things that are going to make us happy for the next year or so.

Well so far this week i have managed 3 NSDs in a row. Got paid tuesday and i have decided on a new way to curb the spending i have left al the money for the bills in the currant account and transferred whats left which is 230 into my saving account so if i spend any i will have to transfer it back hoping that the hassle of doing transfers will stop me.

Got a busy march ahead my sisters birthday already got present just need cards, mothers day present and cards, going to see Russell Howard (OH paid for these tickets) and Olly Murs (Tickets were DD1 christmas present) and afternoon tea with mum and sister. Lookung forward to these outings and hoping to stick to me diet and no alot of spending happening.

Oh dear just checked DD1 trip letter and realised i have to pay 85 by the 28 April which i havent budgeted for paid off 20 today so that leaves 65 which i am going to have to work into the budget. Had to pop out to get some sandwich meat as i forgot to get it tuesday when we did our weekly shop, so as usually came back with more than just sandwich meat another 14 pound lighter. Going shoping with mum and sister sunday but kids have vouchers left from christmas so hoping to get away with a small spend as i only really need to get cards and present for mothers day. Really need to make some time to get some things listed on fleabay to raise some funds. On the plus side yesterday was an nsd and tomorrow should be one as well.

Well not been a saving weekend but we have had fun saturday we went to the think tank birmingham lots of fun had by us and kids. Sunday went shopping with mum and sister got cards i needed to get but also got new duvet set, cardigan, bath mat and towels. these are things that were needed in the house except the cardigan. now to settle down to a low or no spend week. credit card have given me 59.80 off my card due to them charging me too much interest and i have been refunded 98 from the boots i had that broke so the card has come down by alot this month. Joined in the no more toiltries board as i have tons of shower gels, perfume, etc., joining this has helped me to focus on what i have and not buy any more tolietries and when i get another product out of the stash i put a pound in so this will help me re buy the products that i like the best and i am not going to buy products for the sake of buying them to store under the bed.

    Advice needed
A house has come up for sale for offers over 85000. We near enough have the deposit of 10% 8500. How much do banks charge for arranging mortgages and how much are solictors fees as we have no real idea and it would be helpful so we know how much more we would need to save.

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

Our mortgage fee got rolled into our mortgage, so we didn't have to pay it up front, but it was around 1,000 (we had ever so slightly more than a 10% deposit, it was 11.3% if I remember correctly! I don't know whether that affect being able to roll it into the mortgage). Solicitor was around the 1,500 mark. We hired a van so didn't have any other moving expenses, so the whole thing was fairly cheap, as it goes.

We went to the bank today to talk about mortgages and it is do able but needs to sorted by september as after that oh will have to work till he is 70. Feeling motivated now I know we can do it just need to find a house the one I ws interested in has a mine shaft 30m away so the bank wouldn't give us a mortgage. Whatever happens we will not be moving into more rented. Also work have given me a 2000 pay rise as someone is leaving and there sharing the money out amongst the ones left.

Well another work week over. Work have announced there going to a 4 1/2 day week fro may it's took abit of fiddling but I'm managed to fit my hours in and dd2 will not have to go to after school club so that's a 5 saving a week. With good news for the last few days I'm now waiting for the bad. Off out tomorrow with mum and sister. Then out with oh in the evening without the kids. Need to get my brain in gear and get saving and back on the diet. Our weekly shop this was under 35 a once in a blue moon event, trying to keep food spending down as this can then go towards our savings if we when we buy our house

Feeling a bit down today the house that we was going to look at has been sold it was my favourite but like my mum said it obviously wasn't for us and somethong will turn up. Unfortunately there is not anything else in the area we want to be. So we've got to wait and get a viewing early next time and anyway it will give us more time to save for the deposit and any renovations we want to do. Not an NSD today as I brought chocolate and I have given money to a collection at work.

Well where do i start me and OH have had our bid accepted on a house 142k . Cant believe we are going to do this we are 39 and 47 so this is going to be a massive step for us and the kids but a fantastic scary and positive step for our futures. Just got my fingers crossed that everything goes through smoothly. We just need to save as much money as possible now before the sale goes through for all the extras that we will need to buy wallpaper, paint, curtains etc., Will be getting where we live now cleared of all juck as i am not taking it with us so lots of charity shop visits, dump and lots of flea baying. Trying to eat as much as we can out of the freezer and cupboards especially the things that have been in there a while.

Had to buy some bread for dinner as OH decided to annoce that there was no bread and he had a loaf out the freezer but it was frozen solid, so much for an nsd today. Tea is going to be gammon joint roast potatoes mash and the veg that we have remaining in the cupboard. Hoping for an NSD tomorrow. Got a few sales ending on flea bay tonight and they are at 15 so hoping to save the money in my paypal account so i cant spend it.

Well done on moving into home ownership. Hope all goes smoothly. Moving is expensive so I would cut out all unnecessary expenditure until you are in then reassess.

We was going to see mortgage advisor tomorrow but oh forgot I'm going to see dd2 in her school play so we are going to rearrange for later in the week. Trying to get rid of the clutter bit by bit sold some bits on fleabags made 25 which I am saving towards new house stuff.

Well so much has happened. Filled in mortgage application 4 April, house valued 11 April, full mortgage offer received 13 april. Not sure how long it's going to take to get into this house. Still decluttering and got some boxes from work to start packing. Made 50 so far on fleabags from selling our unwanted junk. Still got along way to go with decluttering and also eating the freezer down so cutting down on food bills as well.
