Have you borrowed money online? Payday loans, guarantor loans, doorstep loans 16th Jan 17 at 12:16 PM
    Hello everyone.

I'm a researcher at Newcastle University and I'm looking to talk to people about their experiences of accessing and using short-term credit products online.

Short-term credit products might include payday loans, guarantor loans or doorstep loans accessed online. These products could have been accessed via any digital device, like a smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet.

We’re interested in finding out which credit products you have used, or attempted to use, and how important digital devices were in accessing the credit. This will help us to understand how digital devices are changing the credit market and impacting people’s everyday lives.

Discussion will last between 45 minutes and 1 hour and take place at a time and place convenient to you, either face-to-face or by telephone. All interviews will be confidential and anonymised and you will be entitled to receive a report outlining the key findings of the research at the end of the project.

Participants will receive a £20 shopping voucher as a thank you for their involvement in the research.

If you would like to take part, please get in touch or leave a comment below. It would be great to hear about your experiences.

    Rachel

I spoke to Rachel on Wednesday morning and it was a good experience, she is a good listener and at no point did I feel it feel uncomfortable. It was actually very interesting! I had my laptop nearby so I could look at websites I used ect, which I think helped jog my memory!

Very weird when the CAB did something very similar less then a year ago.

I wouldn't say it is weird for more than one set of research to be completed on a subject.

    Thank you everyone for replying!

Thanks Sadie23 for sharing your experience of the interview. It was great to talk to you.

keepcalm - In particular we're interested in exploring the ways in which digital devices matter to people's experiences of accessing credit. So for example, the spaces and times within which people are able to apply for a loan, research different lenders, check accounts, etc, and what this experience is like. I think that's one way that this research builds on work that has gone before? Hope that helps.

A big thank you to everyone who has replied to my post. We currently have enough responses - and I'll be conducting the final few interviews over the next week or so. I'm in contact with people at MSE and we would like to share our findings with you and others on the forum. We should have this ready to share by the end of summer 2017, so August/September time. Thank you again - and please feel free to contact me on here if you have any questions or would like to know more about the research.
