    New Journey

New Journey 1st Jan 17 at 3:04 PM
I have been hanging around the diaries for around a month , decided to subscribe a get rid of the debt once and for all. I had a dmp which ended 3 years ago but owing to a drop in salary have managed to get myself in around 5 k debt again. Once I have Jan statements for credit card will be able to tell true figures.

I have signed up for swag bucks today and done a couple of surveys. Need to do SOA , but not sure how much to put in categories like household repairs for one .

Any help filling it in gratefully received.

Back from a lovely night away, walked miles in the sun yesterday, blown away the cobwebs.

    On the money front:
Hotel paid for from free voucher.
Breakfast and evening dinner£60 paid for from refund to cc plus an extra £2 each as refund £56.
Coffee and cake at Starbucks lunch time had a gift card with £10 on , bill came to £9.50.
    Tram tickets £5.00 each.
Tea on the way home at eat in chip shop £6.10 each.
Extra spent £13.10 . Not too bad very please . I took £20 from my entertainment budget and came back with £6.00 ish.
Weekend away no credit card used and no bills yo pay.

I was very worried about spending money before we went , going in shops etc , needless to say it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

I am giving £5 to my friend for petrol as she drove.

    Hey, enjoy your Monday off!

If you close your eyes (momentarily) when you're ironing, you can imagine you've treated yourself to a sauna.

You're doing really well, especially on your weekend away.
Personally hate ironing but we made the decision to get Netflix last year when we got rid of more expensive tv stuff and I only watch a particular programme when I iron so there's an incentive. Can't say it makes me look forward to the ironing any more but at least it passes more quickly.

I have talked about getting my working days down to 4 for a while now. Original plan was to reduce hours , but work life balance at works means I can do a compressed week.

Have applied at work today , fingers crossed 🤞. NSD today .

I am impressed by your weekend away budgeting. When you do it for those sorts of amounts, it means you can maybe do it a little more often.

    Good luck with the application

10 days to payday and I have been looking at my budget, definitely not going to spend £120 on food this month. Going to drop food budget to £100 and see how I go.

Think I may have money left on spends as well, but still have one night out before payday a meal next week. If there is any left over may roll it on to next months spends as I am away for the weekend again. Staying with a friend in my favourite place in the uk, accommodation free but will have to use extra petrol so decisions to be made nearer payday. .

    Another NSD which is good.

Used snowball calculator tonight and I need to up my repayments if I am to be clear on the date the 0% expires. I need to find an extra £35 , all doable I think.

Bit of a panic today , forgot a friends birthday , had to order flowers for her as she lives in another part of the uk. Usually I would have been getting the credit card out , but today I paid with my debit card . The money will come from the extra in the food budget. Feels so good being in better control of money.

Beautiful day , nice walk after work , just about to eat dinner, omelette and salad.

Sometimes I read other diaries and see other people paying off huge amounts each month. I get a bit downhearted with the whole thing of debt busting when I don't see much progress as my payments are so much smaller.

I suppose each journey is different and it's a slow journey rather than a marathon for me.

Feeling sorry for myself over !

It's all relative Cumbria Lass. You don't have huge debt to make huge payments towards.

Your debt free date is earlier than mine AND I don't think you need to pay nearly a third of your wage to do it. I know whose position I'd rather be in

    You're doing great!

Spent more than I was planning today. Took dear little grandson out for tea , he is a well behaved boy but has his moments. Like not wanting to go to sleep at his normal 7pm , nearly had to threaten him with going home and not sleeping at grandmas . We spent £9.00 between us and £11 on waxing so not to bad and I did have the money in my spends account . Have enough left now for hair on Wednesday and curry out with friend Thursday. Payday Friday .

Just used Top cash back for the first time , had a £15 Debenhams voucher from taking out a insurance plan. Needed a new baby present which I have bought through said top cash back.

Weekly shopping was £27.51 from Aldi but needed some cleaning materials , within £30 budget so ok.

Nearly the end of the month for me, no credit card used for 3 months now .

Going to luck at all my pots now and see what I may have left over .

Can people resonate with this incident that happened with me today. As I have said previously I am partial to my weekends away , days out etc( aren't we all ) , there is never a shortage of friends who will suggest this or are up for coming. Previously to LBM most of the cost has gone on a credit card.

Back to today the Virgin Train seat sale and lunchtime found me booking 2 return tickets for a Saturday day out £20 return from the north west bargain. Then I get to the paying bit , get my purse out , no credit card omg I nearly had a fit, no card., so used to paying with a credit card it wad an automatic reaction. Anyway I looked again and there was my debit card and in my holiday fund is the £50 I have saved so far this year for such events. Feeling smug now I paid for my tickets with real money .

Yes maybe I shouldn't be booking days out especially as I am going away abroad soon, but I have saved it . If I have any money left in my holiday fund in December it will go off a credit card .

I feel on top of the world that I have paid for my ticket already.

Sorry to have gone on about it.

Paws thank you for your comment on my diary , much appreciated.
