Mooloo's Joining up the dots in 2017 1st Jan 17 at 2:18 PM
Welcome to another year in the life of Mooloo.
I have been posting for many years now and have shared all the ins and outs of life, love, families and work.
I started when I was struggling to bring up my children and their new babies under quite difficult circumstances.
I am happy to say that I am in a much better stage of my life than all those years ago.
I live with my 9 year old granddaughter with a Guardianship order for the past seven years.
I have my own business running a sewing shop, and I have a rather tenuous relationship with my chap for 12 years plus.
We are moving into 2017 with the new challenges of joining up the dots and hopefully moving forward to a single home in a couple of years.

So while I attempt to get things done I will continue to keep my life on track by being accountable for my actions by committing what is going on here.
I will see if I can remember how to post a link from one thread to another.

I simply cannot see why you should accept the blame.

Do you have his original specifications in writing, if not why not? If you do then tell him the cost of alterations, why oh why do you believe you are to blame for everything and that you should sort it at all cost to you.

Sorry but this is tough love. You need to find some strength, the bunting, staff and now this all in a short space of time. You are not running a buisness at the moment you appear to be running a charity and as such you will fail.

Either tough up or give up.

Made to measure is that. Made to measure. If he's given you the wrong measurements, then there's no reason at all for you to alter free.

If there isn't something already in your terms and conditions to reflect this, they need updating for future.

On quotes do you have on the paperwork somewhere E&OE? Errors and Omissions Excluded. This would then give you some leeway to go back and correct something wrongly quoted.

I feel for you, running your own business is no fun sometimes.

I will have a look at the fine print, although we have it on the wall we don't tend to have it in the paperwork.
I called both staff together briefly today as after a morning of idiotic requests, and having stupid Repairs to tents, sleeping bags, handbags, horse splints, and a straw hat! I had enough.
    Instructions are now,
No silly jobs! No heavy furnishings, all curtain making etc to be recommended to another seamstress who specialises in them.
No exact price for unknown quantity, and an ESTIMATE not a white for time before price. To estimate at least 30 minutes more than initially thought to cover, deposits for larger than £50 jobs, and no jumping the queue unless a premium is charged for a gold service.
That we are dressmaker/tailoring not anything else. Although we will shorten curtains ( good money there), we will not make big items at this time. It can be reviewed again later, but I can't be doing with the stress.
The bunting ended up giving me £4 an hour labour!
Although I am glad I had done it as he came in for it today instead of the deadline of tomorrow he had said.
I had the dentist and had hoped it was the day for my implant but apparently not, it was a further piece of metal added, the denture refitted over it, and he said two weeks! I told him that the wedding is two weeks today! So I may very well not have my implant intime.
I got back to work and just burst into tears!
I presume that it is because I am so tired.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

    ***HUGS***
well done for speaking to staff and reading the riot act
re dentist: you will look gorgeous whether your implant is fitted or not so don't stress, think positive
re camper cushions: as others have said go back and look at the original enquiry measurements if those are what he gave then that is his issue & its not your issue hes down in devon if they do need to be altered by you (unlikely) then he needs to return them to your workshop by courier or shanks pony. i've had a full bells and whistles (short lead time) enquiry myself this week with diamond work, piping and 2nd fabric type, they have not said where they want the piping or 2nd fabric in the seats therefore they are getting what i give them.

have a relaxing bath, a bit of reading and an early night for a couple of nights to give yourself some time to recharge xx

If he gave you the measurements, rather than old covers to use as templates, then it's his problem if they're not right.

Please don't let the recent problems get you down. I agree with others that you should let staff go at the end of June. At least what you save in her wages will help subsidise the ridiculously poor rate you got for the bunting, which was all her fault!

Just a thought...I'm ever the cynical one....but could this customer be in anyway linked to staff? She was getting him a good deal in her final days?

Stay positive Mooloo. I just wish I lived closer to you as I've got several jobs I need doing right now and don't know a local seamstress.

Thanks everyone, I had a meltdown day yesterday, but I stopped working at 5pm, came home after collecting dgd, and apart from cooking a stir fry didn't do anything else and went to bed just after 10pm.
I only woke three times, which for me is good.
Although I felt really beat yesterday, I am going to focus on my daughter's wedding today. It has become urgent to me, and I will make my suit today and customers jobs that are urgent can be done by the seamstress, but as far as I can remember there was nothing that had to be priority for today or tomorrow.
I must iron my dress and get ready for work.

Morning all, from a slightly happier Moo.
I was the one giving my Neighbour a shoulder to cry on yesterday outside school, it was her turn to have a meltdown! Hugs, tissues, and a little help. I got to work to find the seamstress already there and practising on the blind hemming machine. We discussed the Machine and the need for finer needles and so before I started the sewing I did the ordering from eBay and Amazon. Although we may be waiting a few weeks for some of the special threads to go with it.
I then concentrated on my own outfit for the wedding.
I finished it at about 4.45
I tried it all on, hat, shoes and a bag I bought in the little shop next door to mine. BF took a quick picture for me as I don't have any big mirrors here at home. I have put it on my Facebook page. But I really need to press it properly!!
We spent the evening doing a little gardening and then watching catch up on tv.
Today I am back to work to do customers jobs and teaching in the last hour.
I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend at the BF's afterwards.
I can turn to my problems from a distance then. I need to get my diary out and scribble.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Ok so how many of you have sneaked a peak at my Facebook page, suddenly there has been 1,444 views! Never get that many normally!

Dgd has gone to a BBQ and a sleepover so I have come to Oxford tonight but will need to get home tomorrow afternoon instead of Monday morning. Can't complain though, very lucky to get the night off.

Lovely dress Mooloo and you look great in it.

    Thanks people.

I have had a strange day, we went for a drive in BFs little Berlington Arrow, but broke down in a village, and were helped by a lovely couple who gave us cold drinks, let us use their loo, and while we spent 3 hours waiting for the breakdown truck they even made is a roll, and gave us a glass of wine!
I will be buying wine, flowers and a card and dropping it off on my next visit to Oxford. On a day of 30C it was very much appreciated and made a potential nightmare into a pleasant one instead.
Dgd had fun with her friends and went crayfishing near Newport Pagnell.
So it was not a bad day really.

Gosh it was hot last night!
I think I will have to bring a fan home from work tonight. Dgd has the only fan in the house.
I woke at 6am, but I have struggled to get my vision sorted, my eyes are so tired.
The plans today are to get my mojo back and find some organisational inspiration for the week ahead. I can't have another firefighting week.
There are a lot of jobs in for the week and all the work in needs finishing by the Wednesday of next week which is the first Proms, followed by my daughter's wedding on the same day as the 2nd Proms. But we have also a late wedding dress alterations for this Saturday. No pressure then!
Home looks like a battle field so I will need to spend some time this evening bringing Order back!
Time to get up and get on with it all.
    Another very hot day ahead.

    Hi Mooloo,

Coming out of lurkdom to comment on your outfit.
(although you do know of me from a very aged p.m.)

You look great. I love the colour.

I hope that I will look better on the day with a bit of slap and my hair done.
    Thanks for lovely comments.
It does make me want to make more than mend.
But I don't think it would be very cost effective.
It took about 14 hours to make both pieces and the fabric cost £77.
If I charged labour it would be astronomical.
I will need to speed up or become exclusive designer standards.
    Erm can't see that happening.
I am shattered with the heat today. I want to go to bed asap
