    2017 - A year of change and positivity 18th Dec 16 at 9:10 PM
I started a diary a few months back - but to be honest I'm not feeling the love with it! So with Christmas and New Year fast approaching I figured now as the ideal time to draw a line and make a fresh start.

My debt was at its highest a couple of months back and was standing at £9173.90. It's been made up of largely a shed load of unexpected bills -vets bills, car purchase x2 (1x unplanned as first car should have lasted me a good 5 -7 years but I gave up on it after 18 months and 2.5k of bills ) and subsidising the final couple of months of maternity leave. Anyway, enough of that - what's done is done - it's time to put it right and make sure we don't find ourselves back there.

As well as the money I'm going to use this diary to track my other goals for the year. Following the birth of my DS I've managed to lose 2st 9- the 9lb has crept back on again and needs to be shifted! I've done it all through Slimming World and exercise (more about that in a mo). Would like to lose 1 stone, preferably before the end of March. I'll be tracking my progress here. Exercise - I started running in May and love it! I've entered my first 10k in March and would love to complete a half marathon in 2017. I've also signed up to a challenge to complete 1000k in 2017 so will use this diary to keep me focussed.

I also need to get on track with running the house. I feel currently it's a tip and out of control - sounds daft but this has a massive effect on my ability to relax and switch off. Everything from cleaning, to meal planning and batch cooking to shopping needs to be addressed. Again, hopefully this diary will help.

    Anyways back to the finances......
The debt is split as follows:
    Cc1 £5570.74
    Cc2 £953.35
    Cc3 £790.01
    Overdraft £498.20
    Next - £42
    Very - £297.34

    Total: £8151.64

Cc1 & cc2 are 0% at the minute, so main focus will be clearing the rest.

    Morning!
Had a busy, funpacked weekend with my little family (was reasonably low spend too which was a bonus!). Saturday I did parkrun in the morning and we went to the park for a few hours in the afternoon. Yesterday was the race for life which I ran with little man in the running buggy (my bargain carboot buy of £5 and hopefully going to be key in getting me back into some sort of shape!). So all in all a great weekend, just a shame Mondays come round so quickly.

Still trying to plug then hole left by the tyres with eBay sales. Not going too bad but I still suspect I'm going to be a bit down. Two weeks until pay day and counting.......

Did a quick stock take of the pressie box and checked off against my list. Managed to get a couple more bits using my boots and Tesco points. 3 birthdays this month, 5 next month plus 2 birthday parties The 3 this month and 3 for next are sorted so just need to get organised for the rest!

Right best get some eBay parcels packaged up before little man gets up!

Morning - looks like it's going to be a nice sunny day here, fingers crossed.

Not a huge amount to report financially, still trying to plug the hole left by the tyres. I currently need another £118 to break even - I've got auctions ending tonight that currently stand at £21.50 with lots of watchers, so fingers crossed it could be more.

Have a few errands to run in town today and then hopefully a nice relaxing afternoon. House is still a tip but trying to do a little bit each day in the hope it'll make a difference!

    Enjoy the sunshine everyone x

    Good morning!
Well last nights eBay went better than expected - the actions finished at almost £50!!! That coupled with the £22 refund I've had through for the cancelled pony insurance mean that I'm just £50 off my target to break even. The budget for the remainder includes a full tank of diesel for OH that hopefully won't be needs fingers crossed!!!! 8 days until pay day - we can do it!!!

I'm planning on doing a car boot sale in a couple of weeks - we've got soooo much junk. Just need to find the time to start sorting.

Anyway better get packing the eBay bits - hoping to get into work early. Early start = early finish.

Yay it's almost payday!!! eBay sales have helped to plug the money hole, still needed to dip a bit into the OD as had very little food in the house, but we're almost there. Roll on Monday!!!

Plan of action for next month......
We need to pay for our holiday in the next couple of weeks - cost £200 and also the dogs jabs - approx £60. So £260 extra to find. The money is there but it'd mean cutting back on the debt repayments, so would like to raise the extra to cover it. I'm planning on doing a carboot for all DS outgrown clothes and all the clutter not worth ebaying. Plan is for a couple of weeks time so need to get sorting.

Housework is really dragging me down. Both OH and myself are shattered each night but sitting in a bombsite is doing nothing for our moods. Need to tackle this even if it's just 30mins a day it's going to help.....

Running and weight- need to start uping my distance in preparation for Septembers half marathon. The buggy is helping me get out in the week, but the furthest I've run with it is 5 miles - don't think I'd want to take it much further! So need to drag myself out of bed early on Saturday mornings and get on some long runs! By the end of July want to be running 10 miles on a weekly basis.

Right best get ready for work - have a good day x

Whoop whoop - pay day again!!!

    So scores on the doors.....

    Cc1 was £5606.20 now £5456.20 (-£150)
    Cc2 was £849.52 now £819.52 (-£20.00)
    Cc3 was £0.00 now £0.00 (-£0.00)
    OD was £1015.28 now £984.81 (-30.19)
    Very was £125.73 now £74.73 (-£51.00)

    Total was £7596.73 now £7335.54 (-£261.19)

Still not as good as it should be, but it's going down and to be fair if it continues at this rate it'll be gone in less than 2.5 years - just in time for Christmas 2019. That's going to be our worse case scenario.

So this month we've got dog jabs and the holiday to pay for- £260ish to raise. I'm looking at doing the carboot next weekend and will continue to eBay as of my life depends on it in the meantime! The overdraft needs to be the big focus as this is the only one currently costing us. Aim is down to £500 by August and hopefully £0 by year end. Fingers crossed

Will check in later as I've just realised the time! Need to spring into action!!!!

Didn't make it back on line last night - I was too shattered!!!

£11 made last night in eBay sales - I've popped this into a separate account in the hope that it adds up to some nice big lump sum by the end of the month - fingers crossed........

The months already been off to a spendy start, our garden waste bin subscription had lapsed, so I've had to pay out £35 for that and also £35 for dog food. The dog food should hopefully last 6-8 weeks though. Farriers out tonight also, but this is budgeted for. Also need to sort our breakdown cover as this is due for renewal

In other (rather selfish) news, I've come to the conclusion I need to focus on me and my mental and physical health more. Work is dragging me down, but for the foreseeable looking elsewhere isn't an option. I'm finding I am permantly shattered which doesn't make me much use as a mother, partner or friend as all I want to do is put my pjs on and sleep! The house is a tip but I've no energy to do much about it and that drags my mood down too. I'm also finding that I'm turning into quite a negative and bitter (again largely related to the work situation) person and that's not who I am, so it's operation kick up the butt time! Somebody has suggested mindfulness to me. I've downloaded an app to get me started and have found that it does seem to help me relax and destress - definitely something I'm going to explore further. I also need to start reflecting on the positives and reasons to be grateful in my life rather than the negativity. So here it goes - I guess recognising there's a problem is the first step on the road to change....

    Jobs for today....
    1. Ring vets to pay bill and sort woofs appointment.
    2. Laundry away
    3. Sort porch and hall
    4. Boots order for little man's supplies

    Reasons to be grateful......
    I'll start with the biggies....
    1. I have wonderful little boy, a partner who loves me despite my moods and an amazingly supportive family.
    2. We've got a nice house in a lovely village which is more than adequate to be our forever home.
    3. My animals - walking the woofs and seeing to the ponies give me a daily escape from the pressures of 'real life'

    Good morning!
I've had a shocking nights sleep so all I can think of right now is climbing back into bed tonight! For once I wasn't tired at bedtime but on the flip side really struggled to get to sleep (I'm never happy ) and then little man woke at 3am and refused to go back to sleep without cuddles - it's going to be a long day!

eBay and fb sales are ticking along quite nicely, with £42 made since payday and another definite £5 on its way and a potential £40 sale in the pipeline - fingers crossed! That'll be the woofs jabs sorted.

Have spent the last couple of days sorting through the loft and garage for eBay and carboot fodder of which I've found plenty! Plan is to do a carboot this weekend whether permitting. Would be nice to get a chunk to put towards the holiday.

Spendy day yesterday - food shopping and toddler shopping. DS seems to have run out of everything at the same time - nappies, wipes, bin refills, toiletries etc. On the plus side boots had some fab offers on the stuff I needed and with various app offers and baby club points it meant I could come home and order a couple more Christmas pressies using my points

    So, jobs for today.......
    1. Finish sorting Carboot stuff
    2. Post eBay
    3. Meal plan
    4. Tidy hall and porch (still not done it )

    Reasons to be cheerful
    1. Early morning snuggles with DS - as much as I could have done with the extra sleep I really cherish these moments and will be gutted when he no longer wants mummy cuddles!
    2. Spent a lovely couple of hours yesterday catching up with a friend - really pleased to see her settled as she's had a horrendous start to the year but is now coming out the otherside.
    3. OH has his final day in a job that was dragging him down - he's onto pastures new next week. I couldn't be happier for him, he really deserves the new opportunity.

    Good morning!
It's been almost a week since I lasted posted, so time for a well over due update....

I did a carboot sale last weekend and made £140ish.... this coupled with the eBay and fb sales means that the holiday and dog jabs are both paid for . Any eBay / fb money for the remainder of the month will be paid into a separate account for now and hopefully be paid off the OD providing it's not needed elsewhere before month end.

The house and garden need to be my focus for the coming weeks. I want to turn both into places where I want to spend time rather than just seeing what needs to be done all the time. I need to take the little and often approach to both, as with having DS with me all the time it's impossible to spend a chunk of time sorting it. Think it's time to bring my 15 minute timer into play - it's an eye opener how much you can do in 15 minute chunks. I used to be of the mindset if I haven't got half an hr it's not worth bothering, but 15 minutes 2-3 times a day really makes a dent in it, then the bigger stuff can wait til the weekend when OH is around to help keep DS entertained.

    Right jobs for today....
    1. Post eBay
    2. Relist eBay
    3. 15 minutes am / pm

    Reasons to be cheerful....
    1. Whole day with DS today
    2. The sun is shining
    3. I've woken up feeling very positive about things - need to bottle the positivity and keep it going.....

    Good morning!
Been a loooong time since I last checked in. Things are ticked along not too badly. If I'm correct OH should get a week or so's wages from his old job a week today, plus his first pay packet from his new job at the end of next week - so just a week to get through.

So progress over the last couple of weeks........
The garden - finally beginning to look a bit tidier! Flower beds have been cleared ready to slate over, grass cut and patio deweeded. Doesn't sound like a great deal but believe me our garden was shocking! It may be finished come winter!

Money making - eBay sales are ticking over nicely, nothing major just the odd £5 here and there. Also took £50 at a local baby market. Still got loads to get rid of, so hoping to do at least one more car boot and list the better stuff on eBay.

House- beginning to get a little bit more organised. Have some time off next week, so hoping to make the most of a few child free hours and blitz it.

Running- I've been so lazy. Running and warm weather do not mix for me. I'm behind on my training plan and on my 1000k for the year. The local leisure centre have an offer on a monthly pass for £20 over the summer, I think I'm going to take advantage of this as it gives you unlimited pool, gym and classes. That way I can swim before work when I can't run and also clock some mileage up on the treadmill. Be well worth it as I can also take DS swimming and usually pay between £4-£5 depending on where we go.

Weight - see above but add in to the mix that I'm a greedy guts who likes my food. Back on it as if yesterday - everything is getting written down.

So baby steps are being made, just need to remind myself that it's not all going to change overnight.

    Reasons to be cheerful.....
    1. DS slept through!!! He's teething and had a virus this week so very little sleep been had in our house.
    2. OH seems to be settling into his new job better after an initial wobble.
    3. Two whole days with my little man

My favourite time of the month again - payday!!!

    Scores on the doors...
Whoop whoop - pay day again!!!

    So scores on the doors.....

    Cc1 was £5456.20 now £5306.20 (-£150)
    Cc2 was £819.52 now £799.52 (£20.00)
    Cc3 was £0.00 now £0.00 (-£0.00)
    OD was £984.81 now £963.97 (-20.84)
    Very was £74.73 now £64.73 (-£10.00)

    Total was £7335.26 now £7134.42 (-£200.84)

Again, not a ground breaking month but it's heading in the right direction. Plan was to clear very and reduce OD to £500 by the end of August. Very is no longer a priority as this is now in 0% until December, which leaves 5 payments of £13ish. OD must come down and I'd ideally I'd like this gone by the end of the year. 6 paydays until the end of the year would mean approx £161 per month - going to give it my best shot......

Spendy month coming up - MIL 70th, OH car tax and woofs op is going to mean approx £350-£400 in additional spends - need to be disciplined!!!

    Plan for today.....
    1. Post eBay
    2. Buy monthly pass for leisure centre. Currently half price @£20 gives unlimited access to pool, gym, classes etc. Can take little man swimming and have a last ditch attempt and getting fit before the half marathon!
    3. Meal plan - falling off the slimming world wagon again!

    Plans for the month....
    1. Pay £160 off overdraft
    2. Lose half a stone
    3. Run 120k

Thank you - I will get there one day!

    In the meantime......
So, cc3 sent me a letter offering 0% on money transfers for 19 months and given that the OD isn't disappearing at the rate I wanted and costing me ~£14 a month for the pleasure I figured it would be rude not to take them up on it. Woofs vet bill came in at approx £300 and given that we didn't have much notice of it only £100 had been put away, so it went on cc3 initially. So I paid cc3 off with the OD before using the money transfer to pay off the OD so it's all on 0%. It works out at approx £53 a month to pay it off before the 19 months is up, so will set a DD up for £55 to cover it.

eBay is ticking over quite nicely. Another £26 made last night. Need a few bags of bark and some decking oil to finish off our garden project so will probably use it towards this.

Cc2 will now be the focus for overpayments. Currently pay £20 ish minimum payment. Hoping to make this £100 with eBay and various other savings elsewhere. Should be doable.......

Really really must get on here more often, even if it's just to brain dump- it's been nearly two weeks

    So....
Things are ticking over not too badly. Not going to be a ground breaking month in terms of repayments, but overall feeling more in control. Just need to get my head round OH new pay day as it's now the last working day of each month, so varies each month and is a good 4-5 days later than his old one.

I've rejoined slimming world - not very MSE I know but need to get my weight back under control ahead of Christmas. First week weigh in was 1.5lb loss. Not a huge loss I know but a step in the right direction.

It's 4 weeks on Sunday until the half marathon. Managed 11 miles last weekend slow but I did it. Will aim to do the same route this weekend.

eBay sales are ticking over quite nicely - loads more to declutter, but it's nice to see the pile coming down and the Paypal account going up. Been very useful to help plug the gaps left by unexpected car / animal related bills.

The garden is almost done!!! So nice to have something that resembles a garden rather than a jungle!!! It's all very low maintenance (which was the idea!). Just need to wash and oil the decking and repaint the fences and we're done. A little late to appreciate it this year maybe but that's one huge monkey almost off our backs

The house on the other hand......
Eek! How can one toddler create so much carnage!!! I've discovered the organised mum blog and am going to give her method a go. It's very similar to fly lady but works in daily 30 mins blocks. Need to do something as I can feel it all spiralling out of control.

So jobs for the Bank Holiday weekend...
    1. Post eBay
    2. Meal plan
    3. Clean and stain decking
    4. Pressure wash patio
    5. Paint fence
    6. Clean out new stable
    7. Finish fencing paddock
    8. List eBay

Payday yesterday so time for the scores on the doors.....

    Cc1 was £5306.20 now £5156.20 (-£150)
    Cc2 was £799.52 now £749.52 (-£50.00)
    Cc3 was £0.00 now £1080 (+£1080)
    OD was £963.97 now £0 (-£963.97)
    Very was £64.73 now £49.73 (-£15.00)

    Total was £7134.42 now £7035.45 (-£98.97)

Not great but still going down. Hopefully next month willl be better, but there is a few obstacles between now and Christmas to be mindful of.

Both cars are due a service and MOT and DS birthday is coming up, so need to start thinking about that so they don't all creep up and bite us.

Quidco I've had £10 payable on, so have used this to purchase some xmas pressies in the sale. Also have £63 lodged in a missing cashback claim from when we switched energy providers. This is moving forward so hopefully should have that soon too.

Beginning to get organised in terms of Christmas- plan is to have all presents bought by the beginning of December.

Got a £20 off a £50 spend at very. Conscious it's a lure to get us to use the account but with DS birthday and xmas coming up it's too good to pass up. Will just need to make sure it's paid straight back.

Right best crack on - busy day ahead....

Been awol again!!! Time to get a grip and get focussed.......

So, I've been feeling rather reflective over the last few days. Really feel that it's time to stop existing and start living. I feel as though I've been stuck in a rut for so long with most aspects of my life that it's become the norm. My spark has gone and I feel like I'm going through the motions - need to pick myself up and get it sorted!!!!

    So, the master plan......

    1. Me
Feel rather selfish popping this at the top of the list, but I need to start looking after myself more. If I can do that, everything else will follow suit easier (or so that's the plan!).
    * mindfulness - get back into the habit of doing my daily app. Something I'd only just started to explore but did find it made a big difference to my mental health. Fell by the wayside as I didn't have time - come on it's 5 minutes a day!!!
    * weight - have rejoined slimming world and have about a stone to lose. My weight has always yo-yo'd. Never been massively overweight but do find it has a negative impact on my mental wellbeing when I'm carrying a few extra lbs. Aim to get the weight lost by Christmas
    * Exercise - I love love love the buzz I get from running, but I seem to be struggling to get out consitently as it always seems to be bottom of the list of priorities in my house. No excuses now I have the running buggy I can do a 3-4 miler with the buggy on my days off and the OH can have DS for a couple of hours at the weekend so I can do a longer run. Need to make it happen.

    2. Family life
Really want DS to have the best life we can give him and make loads of happy memories along the way. Feel at the minute our weekends i.e. Family time, are wasted with trips to the supermarket and running errands and generally playing catch up. I'm going to pull together a list of activities that we can do as a family with an aim to doing at least one a weekend. Doesn't have to be expensive - they'll be loads of free stuff on there too.

    3. The House
Grrr why is it everybody else (seemingly) manages to keep on top of things and I seem to be constantly fighting a losing battle? As I mentioned in an earlier post I've just discovered the organised Mum blog as have started to implement her methods. Early days as the mo, but I'm hoping in a few weeks time I'll really begin to see the benefits. Will also help with family life as they'll be less to do at the weekends and it'll be a nicer environment for us to relax together in. Definitely an area I need to get the OH onboard with, even if it's just a few non routine diy jobs that need doing before they escalate into bigger (more expensive) jobs. Need to make a list of these tasks and put some sort of timeframe in place for them.

    4. Work
I feel I have a fab balance since going pt, but still dread going in mainly due to one particular colleague whom I seem to clash with. Doesn't help that he was my ML cover that they've kept on due to my pt working and he has made it clear that a. he's after my job and b. he sees himself as my superior. He's a very confrontational character where as I avoid it at all costs. There have been times over the last 12 months when I've seriously considered leaving, but need to put it all into perspective. Firstly I get paid well for working pt - I doubt I'd get the same elsewhere. Secondly he's the first person I've clashed with in my whole working career - why should I let him spoil something I'd otherwise be happy doing. He's also on a temporary contract, so no saying he'll stick around longer term if he doesn't get what he wants. Need stop letting this man put a black cloud over it all. Will see how the next 6-12 months pan out and readdress then.

I could go on and on but it's quite therapeutic getting this much down in writing. Think the key to it all is planning as I just seem to go with the flow and never seem to move forward! I've got myself a wee notebook that is going to act as my dumping ground, so any ideas, things I need to do, thoughts and feelings etc will get scribbled down in there and hopefully help me take charge of my life again!

Well done if you've made it to the end of this rambling post - Onwards and Upwards!!!!

Grrr! Is it just me that seems to lurch from one financial disaster to the next??? So over the last week my cars developed a huge crack in its window screen - needs fixing before MOT next week (lets not even go there!!!!) and the boiler packed in at the house we rent out (cost as yet unknown!). It's stuff like this that push me to get the debt sorted. I long for the days where we can afford to save £1000 a month and it's a realistic possibility once this is all dealt with! I'm sick of living payday to payday.

Right woe is me post over! Busy day ahead today. Work and a shed load of errands to run. Best get cracking x
