Las Vegas guide and MSE thread 2017 10th Dec 16 at 2:34 PM
Las Vegas unlike nearly every other holiday destination you may have visited. In Vegas the hotels ARE the attractions. Most have a huge casino attached, but if you think that's all there is to the place, you are sorely mistaken! Each hotel is very different, with its own theme and attractions.

The good news is, is that Vegas can be a friend for us Money Saving Experts, with lots of free attractions, cheap eats/drinks and value for money to be had.

This page cannot hope to cover everything, but should point you towards some good money saving tips. All information at the start of this thread is put together by members of the forum and is accurate at the time of writing - we will update it when we can.

After reading the 'information' posts at the start of this thread, feel free to ask a question and join the discussion! We have lots of Vegas regulars contributing to this thread - join the gang!

You could always open a bank account there, or send it home via Western Union. Another possibility is a cheque for part of it and the rest in cash.

Good luck. I have a friend who is playing too, but he's American, so doesn't have your potential problem.

I have the added bonus of not having to pay tax unlike your friend!

How does Western Union work? Can I pop in in the US with $50k in cash and then pick that cash up in the UK, minus a few fees?

You can carry as much cash as you like, you just have to declare it if its over $10,000 and be able to prove where it came from (i guess you would get some kind of receipt for the winnings?)

So I have decided to stay at a excalibur. It was actually 500 more for mirage including fight night. So I could not justify it.

I have three MGM rewards. Has anyone advice on what rewards that don't count as part of this?I heard hex was located near Paris so we could get a free cocktail there.
Are there any others? Located on strip and not too far out?

    Thanks

There's a Wolfgang Puck reward that doesn't count towards your three that seems particularly good - $25 off when you buy two entrees (when I looked entrees start at around $18 I think). I had it but returned it just because we didn't get there while we were in Vegas

The x2 Foundation Room access is very good too, if you can get it. We used it last trip and I've got it again for this year as we enjoyed it so much. Stunning location.

We had dinner reservations last time so couldn't spend as much time there as we would have liked. If you do go, go early evening so you can watch the sun set and the Strip start to light up.

The locations are on each reward if you click on them. I believe the two entrees one is for the Bar and Grill at the MGM Grand.

Yep, it's the MGM one. Sorry I should've specified

If you get it, check the T&C as when I had it they stated you needed to print the reward confirmation. I've never needed to do this with any other reward

Yey so we have taken the plunge and booked our flights, no turning back now. This will be our 5th trip to Las Vegas together but the first with our children (I think we are mad but OH really wants to go). We leave in 2 weeks

We are flying into Vegas 21st July and staying at Golden Gate for a couple of nights (never stayed downtown before), then moving to Vdara for the 2 night comp from myvegas. Then a night at mirage.
We are then going to drive to LA for a few days and spend some time at Disneyland, Hollywood, maybe Santa Monica.
We drive back to Vegas 30th for a few more days at monte carlo.

Out of these we have only stayed at vdara before and usually only do the one for the whole stay so am hoping all turns out well.

Anyone had any experience flying with Thomas cook from stansted to Vegas? I didn't select seats at the time of booking and it won't seem to let me now? I thought I would be able to select them for free at online check in but seems they randomly allocate?
