apps on a Polariod tv 14th Nov 16 at 1:42 PM
Anyone have any ideas how to get ITV player and 4OD and other apps on a polaroid smart TV?
It comes with a BBCiplayer app. Any ideas how I can download the apps?
    Thanks

Very much doubt you will be able to update that TV, even the quality brand don't offer updates to add apps

Get a Now TV box instead for £15 1080 resolution
    http://www.nowtv.com/best-tv-boxes

Or the older Now TV box for less - £7 720 resolution ( good enough if TV is HD ready )

Got a number of these boxes they still work fine ( not from this ebay link - to be clear)

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOW-TV-1-Month-Entertainment-Box-Pass-Refurbished-/172354831219?hash=item2821260373:g:E1gAAOSwOyJX6P7 B

No subscription reqd - but the option is there if you want to take it up

no idea where you get that from
    from memory .
But that must be from a much earlier generation of smart TVs - where the general advice, was not to bother and use a 3rd party box

    Seems things have moved on

there will be a polaroid app store button hidden away on the tv somewhere, on my LG its with all the connections stuff.

a quick look at pics of polarois smart tvs in google shows me a button called 'market' in the apps list im guessing thats the apps store.

check the "market" app and it doesn't have the TV apps just apps I've never heard off, but contacted Asda and they have given me a contact number to call
I will report back with their answer but I don't hold out much hope

    Here is the final reply from a very helpful lady at Asda CS online;

I’m very sorry for the time taken to get back to you on this, it shouldn’t have taken me as long as it has and I hope we can resolve this for you now.

The Polaroid Model you have does not have the software for All 4, ITV and Demand 5 services and will not be updated with them.

I have been trying to understand exactly why, as I personally would have expected to be able to use these types of services on a smart TV. I’ve been advised that what services are available on what TV unit is dependent on the services that were on specification at the time of production and also the licensing the actual manufacturer of the TV had at the time.

The final response I have been given is, when this model was produced the manufacturer did not have the license for these applications and it was not detailed within the specification from Asda to the manufacturer. I have been challenging this and trying to get the specific dates to check if there was a license at the time that would allow us to do a software update for your model and right now this has not been confirmed. Even though a software update could be physically done, if the license was not in place at the time of manufacture it is not something we can do. Just so you know, all TV units manufactured for Asda do now have all of the catch up applications as part of the specification.

I can appreciate this is frustrating to read, I do hope that although it’s not what you want to hear, that it makes sense.

I’d like to offer you a solution if I may be providing you with a Manhattan Freeview box that will allow you to use these services that you cannot get directly through your TV. I know it’s not a perfect solution, however I hope it’s an option you’ll consider.

If it is a TV everyone was fighting over in the black Friday, I would have joined them as the picture is just as good if not better than my Samsung TV's that I have

The problem with the majority of these smart tvs is that they are limited to the catch up channels they come pre installed with. Yes you can get loads of apps (of streams you have never heard of) but not all the major terrestrial channels. My LGs come with iPlayer and 5 only and the browser is woeful at playing itv and 4. I will never buy a smart tv again and next time will get a stick / box which gives more options.
