Kent Log Burner Company - Expensive quote? 5th Oct 16 at 8:48 PM
    Evening all,

I thought I'd drop this quote I received the other day. We've been after a log burner for a while now, and I thought the Kent Log Burner Company would be the way forward (relatively local to me).

They quoted the following, excluding the burner itself:
Full Installation, Material and Labour Costs, which include:-
 Hire of scaffold to access chimney stack
 Full Chimney Sweep, smoke test and certification
 Fitting and supply of new Chimney Cowl and fittings
 Fitting and supply of 904 grade double skinned flexi flue liner, [30 year
    guarantee if maintained/swept regularly]
 Fitting and supply of register/closure plate
 Fitting and supply of vitreous pipe to connect stove
 Fitting and installation of wood burning stove
 HETAS Certificate of Compliance upon completion of works
 Supply of HETAS Notice Plate [Data plate]
 Supply of Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Unfortunately we are unable to take away rubbish. Therefore client is
responsible for disposing of all rubbish which will be bagged up and left on site.
Alternatively we can supply a HIPPO bag and collection at an additional cost of
105.00. The above price is fixed for 90 days and all works guaranteed.
    VAT @ 20% 400.00

This seemed really excessive, with no indication during the first survey.

    Any thoughts?

seems like a rather easy task just laid out on a huge sheet and broken down in stupid parts to make it sound like there's more stuff than there actually is...would I pay 2k for it?

I think it's excessive particularly as they won't take rubbish away.

We had a stove installed two years ago. Got three quotes and most expensive was 3.8k (including stove). In the end we went with someone recommended as we knew the job was straightforward as did he (some made out it was complicated due to opening up the chimney breast).

We paid 2.5k including the stove (C4) and we've been very happy with it.

Do get more quotes and go with who you're happy with for the right price!

Sounds reasonable, but maybe slightly high. We paid 1300 but they didn't need a scaffold and that is going to be a fair chunk of the difference I imagine. Our company also had the waste removal as an optional extra.
