    Argos Reward Codes
Today I bought two items using Mail/Argos codes and cash.

The bedding came to £27.98,but there was an online code (for use online or in store) giving 20% off (£22.38),so this should have meant using four £5 vouchers and paying £2.38 in cash.

I gave the pay desk lady my list of Mail codes and asked her to use the top four ticked ones. Then I double checked, with her that she had indeed used the top four, but she said she used five.

I asked her to check the maths and she agreed with me but said she entered five, as the system was leaving £7.38 to pay, after just four.

The supervisor agreed on the maths ,then said it would be a case of 'not to be used with any other offer' , but I pointed out that the only Argos offer was the £5.60 discount and the Mail vouchers were equivalent to cash, the offer not being an Argos offer. She agreed and gave me a £5 gift card as codes cannot be recovered.

This is like the first problem, where their system would not let someone buy a £4.99 item and lose the 1p (now bypassed by donating 1p to charity), despite the Mail site saying this was fine, but though I was rather silly to hand over my list, someone else could have overpaid, by assuming that they made a calculation mistake, being in a hurry.

The receipt is odd as it says £13.99- £2.80 (twice) then that the discount is £5.60, followed by the total as £27.38 !

Underneath are debits of five lots of £5 and £2.38 via card, which make £27.38. Very odd so beware .

PS I've just checked the site and it says the HOME 20 code gives a discount 'On top of any other offers', anyway.

That should have been fairly straightforward, teddysmum, but they certainly made it sound like a difficult transaction. Good for you for sticking to your guns. Glad it worked out. I'll need to be having a look to use some of my vouchers up shortly. Thanks for making us aware and at least if we get the same response about not using with any other offer, we'll know the answer.

I've just found the 20% off code on the Argos website. Have you any idea when it expires as I can't find any info about expiry? Many thanks.

As a tip, if you find yourself in the same situation ....

    I bought 2 items at £9.99 and was 2p short of £20 (£19.98)

the Argos SA explained that I wouldn't be able to use the 4th code because of this.

I asked "what was the cheapest thing they sold" - she said "I could buy a single use carrier bag at 5p"

    So I did , making it £20.03

    SORTED !

In a similar vein, I also do the Royal Mail TNS postal survey and in some circumstances I am rewarded with LOVE2SHOP vouchers.

The other day I used 3 DM codes on an Argos shop that was £17.98 leaving £2.98 to pay.

Handed over 3 x £1 LTS and got 2p in change.

The assistant had a face like a pitbull chewing a wasp when I produced my Daily Mail vouchers so I suspect she was being deliberately obstructive about it as Quoia has proved that you can indeed top up the total with a 5p carrier bag.

On a different topic: good news for those who like the M&S gift voucher reward - it looks like it'll be continuing after the switchover to Nectar. (Sorry if this has already been posted.)

"...It will also still be packed with exclusive Rewards you love that you can only get at MyMail - including being the only place you can exchange your Nectar Points for vouchers to spend at M&S!"
