    ATB - mortgage freedom by 2020! 28th Sep 16 at 2:14 PM
    Good Afternoon All

So much has changed since my last diary, I felt now was the right time to start a new one. Linkie to the old one is here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5171678 if anyone wants a look-see!

A little about me for those who haven't 'met' me before. I am married to a fabulous DH, who runs his own business. There are major peaks and troughs to that, some months we are brassic and others we feel quite flush. It is a precarious balance at times, and we have to deal with constant late payers, tax bills etc, but on the whole it is worth it. DH job is very physically demanding though, and he works away all week.

We have two kiddies - DD is 4 and DS is 2. They are my world

Our outstanding mortgage as at today's date is bang on £141,900. When I began my old diary at the start of last year it was £171k, so we have done pretty well thusfar However, my income is greatly reduced now as I no longer work - I am officially a home-maker, and that is how it will stay for the foreseeable.

To clear our mortgage before we are 40 (i.e. 9 years time) is the grand plan. I would ideally like to do it in half that time, but 9 years is do-able and requires monthly OPs of £750.

I now have a spreadsheet (thank you hiddenshadow) and an obsession with only having 000 at the end of the mortgage (thank you A Frayed Knot!), and most importantly a frugal mind-set. We need to make each penny do the work of 3, whilst remembering to have some fun on the way.

The first target is to get into the 30s by Christmas... wish me luck, come along for the ride (but make sure you bring tea and biccies!)

    ATB xx

    Morning all

It's a lovely sunny day today, the washing is blowing nicely on the line already. My day consists of some work this morning, then popping to the shops for food (I think DH and the kiddies have hollow legs!) and meeting a potential new customer this evening. I also need to drop a bag of items off at the local charity shop.

Savings pot is growing nicely - I do need to write to our mortgage provider to check how much of our OP allowance for the year we have left as I've lost track - don't want to OP the £4k at the end of the month only to be penalised for doing so! In fact will type letter quickly now and post whilst in village.

I sent a letter to our mortgage provider on Wednesday to clarify how much of our OP allowance we have left so watch this space.

Small eBay sale so I will shuffle the £8 profit into savings shortly. Today's spends will just be £10 for two rib eye steaks for dinner (looking forward to these already!) from the butcher.

    Morning all,

Still waiting for reply from mortgage provider confirming how much of OP allowance we have left. Three items on ebay, all with starting bids of 99p, finishing on Sunday so let's see what they produce. Just shuffled £20 into savings pot. I feel like we are getting there

    eBay bids up to £40

Getting antsy waiting for the mortgage company to reply, don't they appreciate I want to crack on and OP

£1000 divi due from DH company at month end, and the £300 I'm owed from consultancy work will be in my account on Wednesday. As the kiddies break up next Friday for a week, I'd like to have all my financials done and up to date to allow me to enjoy a week off with them.

Still no reply from mortgage company confirming remaining OP allowance... sigh. I know I only wrote to them a week ago so will give it another week before chasing up. We do have the £4K though ready to make the OP just want them to confirm remaining allowance so we don't end up paying a fee!

eBay items finish on Sunday, and no spend weekend planned

    Afternoon All,

Was up early this morning but too weary to post. I have felt quite flat for a few days, unlike me, things just seem a bit Groundhog Day-ish and constantly looking after everyone is tiring me out.

The eBay items finish tonight so that will be nice to get some extra pennies in. Washing is on the line and there is a beef topside in the slow cooker. NSD weekend achieved x

Thank you AFK I will definitely be investigating that today xx

    Morning all,

It's been a while since I did a proper update so here goes:

Original mini goal of being at £125k by end of June will be achieved end of May (will actually be at £124k). That will max out our OP allowance for the year.

This means we have paid £13k off the mortgage so far this year

normal monthly payments will see us at £120k by year end.

Will have saved up £20k by Christmas, to make big OP in new year of next years allowance, plus some left over.

Any thoughts / tips on the plan would be appreciated xx

Plans for the next 7 days:
    1. Fuel up and buy milk today
    2. NSDs tomorrow through until Thursday
    3. Eat from freezer and store cupboard (DH working away makes this easier!)

Right, all that thinking requires a
