Ssp payments taxed? 22nd Sep 16 at 8:06 AM
    Hi all

Before I was ill I was working 16 hours a week part time but then as I became ill i then went on to SSP payments. But I have noticed that I have been paying tax on my SSP payments. Which has taken £150 out of my payments. Can anyone tell me if this is right? Surley if u get ssp payments, tax should not come out of it? Who should I call to help me with this? Payroll?

    Thank you in advance

As said SSP is taxable, whether you pay tax on it or not depends on your taxable pay to date, tax code etc.

£150 does sound high though given that SSP is only £88.45 per week.

It looks like your tax code may be incorrect if this is your only income.

How much were you earning when you were working, and when did your sick leave start? And as molerat has suggested, what is your tax code?
